Position

Admitted to the Paris Bar, Chen Xi is a counsel within Gide’s Beijing office. His practice focuses mainly on assisting Chinese clients on their investments and acquisitions outside China, and European clients on their projects in China, especially in regards to Chinese competition law matters. Before joining Gide’s Beijing office, he was a member of the Competition and Project Finance teams in Gide’s Paris office.

Chen Xi’s experience includes advising Chinese public and private companies (mostly Fortune Global 500 and listed companies) on their investments in Africa and Europe, in various sectors such as mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture/fishery, pharmaceutical, industry and banking, and involving both acquisitions and greenfield projects. He recently acted for Agricultural Bank of China on the creation of a universal commercial bank in Africa, Chinalco on the Simandou iron ore mining project (one of the world’s largest mining projects), and Chalco on a bauxite mining project in Guinea.

Chen Xi has also developed significant expertise in Chinese competition law, helping European clients obtain merger control clearance and advising them on competition law compliance issues in China.
