Benedikt Spiegelfeld is at CERHA HEMPEL since 1979 and has 40 years’ experience of advising international clients. He is regularly acting as chairman, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in numerous arbitrations throughout Europe. As an arbitrator he is mainly active in ICC proceedings, ad-hoc arbitrations and arbitrations under the Vienna Rules. As counsel he has represented various Austrian and international clients in connection with commercial disputes.​ Benedikt is a board member at the ITI International Theological Institute, WORTHINGTON Cylinders (Deputy Chairman) and of the Austrian Japanese Society (Vice President).​

Cerha Hempel‘s arbitration department combines academic experience with an integrated approach drawing on the expertise of other practice groups. The group acts as counsel and arbitrators under various sets of arbitration rules including ICC, Vienna and UNCITRAL rules. The team, under Irene Welser‘s leadership, is instructed in post-M&A disputes, construction arbitration cases, warranty and damage law and administrative law matters. Of counsel Benedikt Spiegelfeld also contributes to the practice.

Cerha Hempel has an established private client practice and is particularly strong suit in trust law. Thanks to its offices throughout the CEE region, the firm is well equipped to handle business matters in jurisdictions including Hungary and Bulgaria. Benedikt Spiegelfeld, is instructed by aristocratic families, charities, churches and universities, and  Albert Birkner, who specialises in foundation law, are the practice heads. Johannes Aehrenthal handles the corporate aspects of private client matters including corporate holdings and subsidiary structuring.
