Julia Apostle, Counsel, is a member of the Corporate team specialising in digital and data privacy matters. Julia provides support on M&A transactions that involve significant and complex technology issues and data transfers as well as providing advice on GDPR and other data protection compliance matters.

Julia has spoken at a number of conferences on information rights and media law issues, provides data protection training to companies and writes occasionally for the Financial Times on data privacy and other legal topics.

Before joining Bredin Prat, Julia spent 15 years in-house with leading online and social media companies, including the Financial Times, CBS Interactive and Twitter.

In addition to M&A support, Julia’s experience includes acting as an external Data Protection Officer for a FTSE-listed company in the run-up to the GDPR compliance deadline, drafting and negotiating online advertising serving agreements, licensing agreements covering data, IT, software, content and brands, and providing compliance advice related to new technology product development and monetization.

Julia qualified as a barrister and solicitor in Ontario, Canada (2002) and as UK qualified solicitor (2007). She is Member of the Paris Bar (registered pursuant to EU Directive 98/5/CE.)


Julia is a graduate of the University of Ottawa (B.A. Communications), McGill Law School (L.L.B. and B.C.L.) and Columbia University (M.S., Journalism). She has also obtained the CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional – Europe) qualification (2017).
