Career

  • Raëd Fathallah, Partner, is a member of the firm’s International Arbitration team.

    He acts as counsel in large-scale and complex investment and commercial arbitrations, in which he represents corporations, sovereign States and State entities.

    Raëd Fathallah is also an accomplished arbitrator. He has served in more than 70 cases under the ICSID, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, DIAC and CRCICA Rules, including as chairperson and sole arbitrator in over half of those cases. He is a Vice President and a Court member of the LCIA, a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and is also on the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators and Conciliators.

    Whether as counsel or as arbitrator, he has been involved in more than 150 proceedings, both ad hoc or under the major Rules (including ICC, ICSID, LCIA, UNCITRAL, DIAC, BCDR, CRCICA and OHADA). He offers a harmonious blend of civil law, common law and Islamic law experience, spanning all continents, with a particular focus on the mining, oil and gas, and construction sectors.

    Prior to joining Bredin Prat, he practised in New York, Montreal and Lebanon.

Education

Raëd Fathallah is a graduate of the University of Ottawa (L.L.L, 1994) and the New York University School of Law (M.C.J., 1996). He also obtained a Doctorate in Law (D.Phil, 2007) from the University of Oxford, Lincoln College, where his research principally focused on investment treaty arbitration.

Bredin Prat runs a balanced practice handling commercial and investment arbitration and is entrusted by many of France’s leading corporations while also regularly acting alongside state entities in investment disputes (Morocco, Lebanon and Egypt are key clients). The firm’s caseload is highly diverse, spanning energy price review, telecoms, construction, commercial contracts and post-M&A disputes. It also regularly manages matters relating to Eastern Europe.
