Career

Johan Weihe is an expert in public law and regulatory issues.

Johan is one of the country’s leading experts in public law, energy law and foundation law issues, and he is consequently a much sought-after adviser by public authorities and companies, especially in the energy and utilities area. Johan advises commercial and non-commercial foundations and autonomous institutions and associations on administrative law and foundation law issues, including formation, amendments to articles of association and extraordinary transactions. In addition, Johan has assisted on a number of major transactions and mergers of commercial foundations.

As a foundation law expert, Johan was appointed member of the Danish Company Appeals Board by the Minister for Economic and Business Affairs. In addition, Johan has for a number of years headed JUC’s foundation conference and network for commercial foundations, and he has in-depth knowledge of the development in the world of foundations. The combination of legal insight and industry knowledge makes Johan a much used strategic sounding board with clients.

Finally, Johan frequently gives lectures on municipal law, foundation law and energy law to, among others, municipalities, clients and in Bech-Bruun Academy.

Bech-Bruun’s full-service energy department has extensive knowledge within the solar and wind industries and is highly specialised in other renewable energy mandates including power-to-X and carbon capture projects. The team also provides advice on large-scale energy infrastructure projects, and matters in the utility and oil and gas sectors, covering transactional, regulatory and contentious work. Johan Weihe leads the team and has significant experience in regulatory matters in the energy and public sectors, including advising on the liberalisation of the waste-to-energy sector as well as carbon capture projects. Per Hemmer is a key name in all areas of energy law, while Rania Kassis focuses on regulatory and contractual mandates.

Bech-Bruun utilises its energy and mining sector expertise to advise clients on obtaining mineral resource licenses, public law issues and matters arising from energy and infrastructure projects. The practice has a diverse client roster including the Government of Greenland and government-owned entities, private companies, foreign corporates and local municipalities. Johan Weihe, who is head of the firm’s Greenland energy department, has extensive knowledge of mineral resource law and public issues in Greenland; he works closely with Per Hemmer and the duo are noted for their energy sector and climate knowledge, which is focused on renewable energy projects and regulatory issues.
