Career
Nuno is a senior counsel in the Employment and Labour practice and with over 30 years’ experience in this area, he has advised clients from many different sectors. These include rail, road and air transport, pharmaceuticals, oil, energy and natural resources, postal, telecoms, and retail distribution.
Nuno is one of a select group of lawyers in Portugal with proven experience and know-how in all aspects of collective bargaining in multiple sectors. He has advised on both direct negotiations and on resolving collective disputes through conciliation, mediation and arbitration. In this work, he has also dealt with all types collective bargaining regulatory instruments.
Nuno holds the title of Specialist in Labour Law granted by the Portuguese Bar Association.
He was a lawyer (1987-1998) and later (1999-2001) an assistant director of Socio-Labour Affairs Department of the CIP – the Portuguese Confederation of Industry, having represented that tripartite confederation on various Portuguese and EU bodies for social dialogue and consultation.
He was a member as an arbitrator for employers of the Economic and Social Council, for the purposes of compulsory and necessary arbitration, and for arbitration on minimum services in strike situations. He held this position for the 2015-2018 term.
Nuno is currently one of presiding arbitrators at the same institution, for the 2019-2022 term.
