Career

Joana is a partner in the Public Law practice and has 18 years’ experience as a lawyer focusing on projects, infrastructures and concessions, including construction and real estate matters.

She advises Portuguese and foreign investors on the implementation of projects, with a focus on the negotiation, drafting and implementation of EPC, O&M and other project agreements. Joana has extensive experience in the negotiation, drafting and implementation of project agreements for energy generation projects, as well as use of water resources, and she has handled major international urban infrastructure projects in various markets. She also has extensive experience in urban rehabilitation projects, including in the residential, office and tourist sectors. She frequently advises clients on regulatory matters, including in relation to energy and construction permitting and geological resources.

Joana has a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. In addition to this, she completed a postgraduate course in civil legal sciences focusing on the law of obligations at Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto.

Joana also has experience speaking at conferences and lecturing. She has taught a on a wide variety of courses and subjects relating to public law and construction. These include public purchasing, public procurement, project agreements (EPCs), FIDIC contractual models, public works contracts, local accommodation, resolution of consumer conflicts in the energy sector.

Joana was a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto and, since 2020, she has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon on the postgraduate course on energy law.
