Arendt & Medernach advises on all issues regarding Luxembourg and European law, tax and regulatory matters. Experienced teams at its Luxembourg head office and foreign offices assist local and international clients in relation to their cross-border activities in Europe, their strategic expansion in Europe and the structuring of their investments throughout the world.

Over the past few years, the investment funds industry has faced multiple waves of legal and regulatory change impacting funds, their managers and their service providers. High-quality legal services have become a crucial tool enabling industry players to navigate these major changes impacting their business, strategy and organisation.

Our expertise in Investment Management

The Investment Management practice of Arendt is a one-stop shop for fund managers and their service providers seeking the right combination of pragmatism and in-depth knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment in Europe and abroad, of the products and latest innovations and the market as a whole.

With the largest market share in Luxembourg in terms of number of funds advised, our clients encompass all kinds of managers, from small start-ups to boutiques and the largest global asset managers. This diversity allows us to work on the broadest range of funds, structures, strategies and asset classes.

Arendt benefits from a strong Luxembourg anchorage and long-term relationship with the Luxembourg government representative bodies, Luxembourg funds supervisory authority (CSSF) and the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI), to name a few.

In order to better cover the Asia-Pacific region, Arendt opened an office in Hong Kong in 2009. This office enables the firm to be at the forefront of all legal and regulatory developments in the region and better serve our clients based in this time zone. In the People’s Republic of China, we position ourselves as leaders for all operations involving the use of China access channels and we have partnered with a number of Chinese companies and financial institutions in their European expansion, in particular in the banking, investment funds and corporate fields.

  • We assisted a fund manager in the setting up of a RQFII UCITS making use of UK RQFII quotas (2014);
  • We assisted clients in view of receiving the approval of the CSSF in relation to a RQFII UCITS investing 100% of its assets in RMB bonds dealt on the China Interbank Bonds Market (CIBM) (2014);
  • We assisted one of the largest Chinese banks in setting up its proprietary RQFII UCITS (2014);
  • We advised the first UCITS fund trading through the Hong Kong Shanghai Stock Connect (2015);
  • We assisted clients in including the Shenzhen Hong Kong Stock Connect in their fund documentation (2016);
