Main areas of practice are corporate finance and capital markets, competition law, corporate law, energy law, European law, and litigation and arbitration. Helga has a long standing expertise in the field of competition law and European law and represents clients in a wide array of economic sectors. She has pleaded cases before the Icelandic competition authorities, Icelandic courts, the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the EFTA Court.


Helga joined LOGOS in 2001, after having been with the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Brussels, and was the Managing Partner of LOGOS 2013-2019.

Helga graduated from the University of Iceland with a cand.jur. degree in 1991, and qualified as an Attorney in 1999. She received her LL.M. in European Law and International Law from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 1994.

Led by company law expert Heiðar Ásberg Atlason, the dispute resolution practice at LOGOS also features EEA and competition specialist Helga Óttarsdóttir as well as experienced litigators Ólafur Eiríksson and Halldór Brynjar Halldórsson. Covering both Iceland and the UK, the team has substantive experience before the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, EFTA and the European Court of Human Rights. In particular, the group regularly defends clients in large-scale investigations brought by the tax or competition authorities and bankruptcy claims; it recently advised HSBC on the collapse of LBI and the domestic legal requirements of a cross-border winding-up. The practice attracts a significant amount of work from key players in the banking, telecoms, retail and shipping sectors.
