Main areas of practice are competition law, construction and real estate, corporate law, European law, financial restructuring and insolvency, litigation, and M&A. Gunnar has long standing experience in advising clients on M&A transactions, as well as on competition law and corporate law. His clients are both international companies as well as domestic ones, in the shipping, aviation and tourist industries, fishing, financial markets and engineering. Gunnar has served as a board member of various companies and institutions.


Gunnar joined LOGOS in 1992, became a Partner in 1995, and was Managing Partner from 2001-2013.

Gunnar graduated from the University of Iceland with a cand.jur. degree in 1992, and qualified as an Attorney in 1993. He received his LL.M. in European Law and International Trade Law from the University of Amsterdam in 1995.

Advising domestic and international clients in the retail, telecoms and fishing sectors, the EEA and competition team at LOGOS legal services is jointly led by Helga Melkorka Óttarsdóttir and Gunnar Sturluson. The group handles key issues including mergers, market dominance allegations and unlawful cooperation of undertakings cases, and advises on dawn raids, horizontal and vertical agreements, state aid work and private enforcements.
