Joanelle’s Corporate Crime experience includes advising in relation to the conduct of investigations and inquiries; some of Ireland’s most significant Tribunals of Inquiry, Commissions of Investigation; and on some of the most complex and sensitive statutory and corporate investigations.

Arthur Cox handles a broad range of white-collar crime matters, including advising on criminal prosecutions, investigations by regulators, and shareholder disputes. The team’s work includes cross-border issues, acting for both Irish and international clients. In addition to handling contentious matters, they also advise on compliance with regulations. The firm has also established a dedicated dawn raid response group to help clients respond to dawn raids by regulators. The practice is jointly headed by Joanelle O’Cleirigh, who is ‘an expert in her field‘, and Richard Willis, who has ‘a constant eye on the big picture’. Ryan Ferry was promoted to partner in 2020.
Advising on the establishment and operation of state-sponsored bodies is a key area of expertise for Arthur Cox, with Maura McLaughlin handling significant recent mandates involving the creation of agencies for the provision of financial aid in the pandemic and financing for social housing projects. The team also represents clients in judicial reviews and statutory inquiries, where practice head Joanelle O’Cleirigh, who has particular strength in healthcare and childcare law, is highly active.
