Grainne practises in finance law with particular emphasis on real estate finance, construction finance, syndicate financing, leveraged financing, receivables financing and lending to QIAIFs, ICAVs and REITs.


Grainne advises financial institutions and borrowers on: syndicate finance; real estate finance (including student accommodation); construction finance; leveraged acquisition finance; working capital finance including invoice discount facilities and receivables and inventory financing; debt restructuring, including debt for equity swaps, warrant issues and debt write offs; financing to Qualifying Investor Alternative Investment Funds (QIAIFs); Irish Collective Asset-management Vehicles (ICAVs); Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and Limited Partnerships; unitranche financing and mezzanine financing.

Grainne is ranked as a “Star Individual” by Chambers and Partners, the only Banking and Finance lawyer in Ireland with this ranking.

Arthur Cox ‘combines legal expertise with strong commercial acumen‘. The team has experience in domestic and cross-border financial transactions, counting major Irish and international banks and asset managers among its clients. Areas of expertise include construction and property finance, corporate acquisition finance, tax-based lending, structured finance, and loan portfolio sales. Ultan Shannon, who has significant experience in debt restructuring, leads the team jointly with Kevin Lynch. Grainne Hennessy specialises in corporate, syndicated and property finance, and firm chair Orla O’Connor has been particularly active in advising on bank asset disposals. Project finance specialist Matthew Dunn and Niamh Quinn, who has experience in domestic and cross-border acquisition finance, are also noted. The team is also supported by the firm’s London office.
