Niamh advises a broad range of clients across the construction, energy, infrastructure, and PPP sectors.

Niamh advises clients on a wide range of matters and focuses principally on construction law, projects and infrastructure (including public-private partnerships), and energy. She has acted for developers, contractors, and lenders on a wide range of construction projects, PPPs, development finance transactions (including the residential, leisure, and office accommodation sectors), and on the construction aspects of many project finance transactions (principally in the energy, transport and social infrastructure sectors). In addition, Niamh has recently advised on a number of large transactions in the pharmaceutical and telecoms sectors.

Arthur Cox is noted in the Irish energy sector for the variety of matters that it is involved in, including advising on projects in the renewable and conventional energy sectors, as well as on battery storage and transmission developments. The team provides comprehensive advice to clients on the financing, procurement and construction of projects, and is also active in M&A transactions involving energy assets and companies. Practice head Alex McLean has deep experience in the energy sector across a range of jurisdictions; in addition to advising on Irish projects, he also acts for Ireland-based clients in international developments. Matt Dunn leads the team’s project finance work; the energy practice is also supported by environmental and planning specialist Danielle Conaghan and construction partner Karen Killoran. Arthur Cox‘s broad transport practice covers matters across the road, rail and aviation sectors, including advising clients on issues at the cutting edge of this area of law. The team is highly active in the asset finance space, with Caroline Devlin, Rob Murphy and Laura Cunningham advising on the financing of aircraft as well as the establishment of leasing platforms and funds. Ruth Lillis was promoted to partner in January 2021 and also focuses on the aviation sector. Beyond financings, the practice acts for transport services companies, airlines and vehicle manufacturers on a range of corporate, commercial and regulatory matters, and also handles the development of transport infrastructure. Aaron Boyle and Niamh McGovern are the key partners in these areas.

The construction practice at Arthur Cox is highly active in the energy space, advising on the design, construction, and operation of projects including offshore and onshore wind, solar, battery storage and waste-to-energy plants. In addition, the practice is heavily involved in residential and commercial developments, acting for prominent investment funds and developers in this space. Practice head Niav O’Higgins is praised by clients as an ‘exceptional lawyer, while Karen Killoran is highly experienced in acting for the full range of parties in construction matters.
