Maura has been a partner since 2007. Prior to joining Arthur Cox, she worked for Linklaters’ London office.
Maura advises international and domestic companies, as well as public sector bodies, on all aspects of corporate law and governance, as well as a wide range of commercial matters. Her clients include Ireland’s largest companies, with a focus on the financial services, industrials, entertainment and technology sectors.
Maura has extensive experience of advising on public and private M&A, with cross-border transactions being an area of focus. Maura regularly advises on both recommended and hostile takeovers, including schemes of arrangement and mergers.
Maura works with companies at every stage of their growth cycle, from initial funding, to private equity investment and through to their IPO or other liquidity event. Maura’s ECM track record is unique in Dublin, and her international experience is invaluable in advising companies and investors seeking to establish and invest in Ireland (FDI).

Arthur Cox‘s longstanding prestigious standing in the corporate and M&A field has not diminished. It continues to advise on many of the landmark and high-value deals involving Ireland. Whether it is public M&A, private M&A, private equity or venture capital, the firm remains at the forefront of the market. It is also noted for inversions and migrations to Ireland, along with other corporate reorganisations. Cian McCourt leads the team and has impressive deal experience, as does Maura McLaughlin , while Geoff Moore is the firm’s managing partner and still a key member of the team. Maeve Moran is amongst the next generation of leading partners, along with Michael Coyle and Conor McCarthy, who are making an impression in the market.
Arthur Cox has a depth of resources and variety of expertise that has allowed it to target all key areas in the capital markets field, from corporate debt and high-yield debt to green bonds, regulatory capital and RMBS; the firm also has a niche in Russian LPN structures. It has a high market share of ECM deals in the Irish market and represents a large number of Irish business that are listed overseas including on NYSE and Nasdaq. Cormac Kissane remains a market leader in DCM, along with Aiden Small and Glenn Butt, and Phil Cody, who heads the New York office, is another key practitioner in the team. Maura McLaughlin and Cian McCourt are key names on the equity side.
Arthur Cox’s broad public sector practice covers the full range of matters in this space, both contentious and non-contentious. The team particularly stands out for its advice on the establishment of state-sponsored bodies, with Maura McLaughlin leading on this work; her recent activity in this space has included advising on the establishment of organisations in response to the pandemic, as well as providing ongoing advice to these bodies. The practice also assists a number of regulatory bodies with their operations, including representing these clients in judicial review proceedings. Practice head Joanelle O’Cleirigh specialises in contentious matters, such as investigations and judicial reviews; elsewhere, Alex McLean and Aaron Boyle advise on the procurement of infrastructure projects, with McLean focused on the energy sector. Senior associate Kate O’Donohoe advises regulators on corporate governance as well as disciplinary proceedings.
