With glorious sunshine streaming through the windows of the Mercury Room at The Fairmont Singapore, The Legal 500 and Jones Day Breakfast Roundtable got underway in the best possible setting,\u00a0and as guests mingled with fresh coffee\u00a0there was great anticipation about the coming session. This was not least because\u00a0Jones Day\u2019s\u00a0global disputes practice leader Sion Richards\u00a0had flown in from London to\u00a0talk through some of the recent eye-catching (and, as they would see later, almost unbelievable)\u00a0enforcement and recovery cases that he and the rest of Jones Day have\u00a0worked on in the recent\u00a0past.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A\u00a0packed room of general counsel\u00a0was amassed, all of\u00a0whom\u00a0were looking forward to an informative discussion\u00a0on retrieving stolen assets with some of the\u00a0most accomplished\u00a0recovery experts in the\u00a0legal world.\u00a0With Singapore partner-in-charge Sushma Jobanputra watching on, the morning\u2019s session began.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sion Richards and\u00a0asset\u00a0tracing\u00a0and judgment enforcement expert James Fidler, a Jones Day associate, began proceedings by\u00a0outlining some of the methods of retrieving\u00a0seemingly irrecoverable\u00a0assets lost to fraud or recalcitrant debtors.\u00a0They then moved on to discussing some of the\u00a0highly complicated\u00a0international cases they\u00a0have\u00a0worked on, which led to\u00a0a number of\u00a0probing questions from those in attendance.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The discussion was then widened to the whole room, including Jones Day Partners\u00a0Tim Cullen, Zac Sharpe,\u00a0Vinay\u00a0Kurien\u00a0and Dennis Barsky.\u00a0While acknowledging that the advent of cybercrime, the international payment network,\u00a0cryptocurrencies\u00a0and sophisticated online criminal syndicates\u00a0have made enforcement and recovery a more daunting,\u00a0chaotic\u00a0and expensive\u00a0prospect than ever before,\u00a0many were impressed with the results that a well-funded investigation can achieve in the right circumstances.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
