Hung Ou Yang, managing partner of Brain Trust International Law Firm and\u00a0<\/span>Joe Boswell<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>The Legal 500<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>welcomed the attendees and set the stage for a day of engaging discussions and knowledge sharing<\/span>\u00a0at The Legal 500\u2019s first-ever GC Summit Taiwan<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>They addressed a packed room of over 100 GCs, heads of legal and other senior in-house lawyers<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>with<\/span>\u00a0more than<\/span>\u00a0150 people attending over the\u00a0<\/span>course of the day<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span>an amazing achievement for the first event of its\u00a0<\/span>kind in Taiwan.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The conference started\u00a0<\/span>in earnest\u00a0<\/span>with an engaging fireside chat, moderated by Hung Ou\u00a0<\/span>Yang<\/span>\u00a0and featuring Robert J.\u00a0<\/span>Malatak<\/span>\u00a0from Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP, Paul Ma from Brain Trust International Law Firm, and Eloy Peral from Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP. The panel delved into best practices, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations surrounding internal investigations, offering valuable insights into\u00a0<\/span>maintaining<\/span>\u00a0trust and transparency in a rapidly evolving corporate landscape.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dr. George Lin, David Lee, Colin Wu from Lin & Partners Attorneys at Law, David Poo from Foxwell Energy, and Po-Hsiang Ou from CISC Taiwan led an informative panel discussion on the intersection between energy projects and insurance considerations within Taiwan’s dynamic energy landscape. The\u00a0<\/span>session was marked for its practical, down-to earth guidance based on the rich experience of those on stage \u2013 people who<\/span>\u00a0have\u00a0<\/span>helmed<\/span>\u00a0or advised on market-leading projects in the energy market in Taiwan for many years.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Winston Y. Chan, Jason C. Lo, Debra Wong Yang from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP,\u00a0<\/span>Ying\u00a0<\/span>Ying<\/span>\u00a0Jiang of JTI\u00a0<\/span>and Dr. George Lin from Lin and Partners Attorneys at Law discussed the complex legal and regulatory challenges faced by Taiwan-based companies expanding into the US market. The session offered valuable insights into managing legal risks and regulatory hurdles when conducting business in the United States<\/span>\u00a0from a panel who are among the most experienced and knowledgeable in the field currently operating.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Next on the agenda, we moved over to the thorny world of Bankruptcy.\u00a0<\/span>Hung Ou Yang<\/span>\u00a0of Brain Trust International Law Firm, and\u00a0<\/span>Robert J.\u00a0<\/span>Malatak<\/span>\u00a0and Eloy Peral\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf\u00a0<\/span>provided<\/span>\u00a0essential insights into navigating bankruptcy proceedings,\u00a0<\/span>optimi<\/span>s<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0debt recovery, and tackling insolvency-related disputes. Attendees gained valuable knowledge on protecting their\u00a0<\/span>organi<\/span>s<\/span>ations’<\/span>\u00a0financial stability<\/span>\u00a0from this hybrid session.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a fireside chat presentation on\u00a0<\/span>The Securities and Exchange Act<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Janet Huang and\u00a0<\/span>Weiyu<\/span>\u00a0Chiang from Formosa Transnational Attorneys at Law\u00a0<\/span>then\u00a0<\/span>discussed the interpretation of proportionate liability under Article 20-1 of the Act. They highlighted potential compensation liability on directors, supervisors, and individuals within companies and the importance of directors’ and officers’ liability insurance<\/span>, giving key takeaways to the audience in the process.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Attendees enjoyed a networking lunch<\/span>\u00a0after this\u00a0<\/span>presentaiton<\/span>, fostering connections and discussions<\/span>\u00a0based on what they had heard on stage up to this point. After the break, we moved on to the last two panel discussions.\u00a0<\/span><\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kunchou<\/span>\u00a0Tsai from Enlighten Law Group<\/span>\u00a0then helmed a discussion titled The Fintech Landscape \u2013 Legal Changes in the Payment Services Market<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0alongside<\/span>\u00a0Felix Wang from Nogle Limited,\u00a0<\/span>Stella Hsieh from Red Building Capital, and Sophie Shih-Yu Chu from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld explored legal changes in the payment services market. The discussion provided crucial insights into the evolving fintech world and its intersection with legal frameworks.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Eugenia Chuang from KPMG in Taiwan, Hui-Sheng Feng from Taiwan Railway, Lois Lin from Wiwynn Corporation, and Claire (<\/span>Yuchieh<\/span>) Lin from Copenhagen Infrastructure Wind Power Development Taiwan\u00a0<\/span>then\u00a0<\/span>discussed ESG initiatives<\/span>\u00a0in the final slot of the agenda<\/span>. The session\u00a0<\/span>emphasi<\/span>s<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0the role of in-house lawyers in driving ethical, environmentally conscious, and socially responsible practices within organizations<\/span>, with Joe Boswell grilling the\u00a0<\/span>panellists<\/span>\u00a0on their own ESG efforts.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
