Tunisia’s economy expanded by 1.4% in the second quarter of 2016, a slight climb on the 1% growth posted in the first quarter but far from a robust showing, as security concerns and social tensions continued to act as a drag on its economic performance. To combat the sluggish performance, the country passed a long-awaited new investment law in September 2016 aimed at increasing foreign investment, which has been suffering since the 2011 revolution. Among other features, the new law gives foreign investors more flexibility to transfer funds out of the country and includes measures to incentivise private spending on infrastructure projects.

Leading domestic law firms Adly Bellagha & Associates, Cabinet Donia Hedda Ellouze, Ferchiou & associés, Jurismed and Meziou Knani & associés continue to win the lion’s share of the country’s major transactions. Eversheds El Heni (a member of Eversheds Sutherland) and Global Lawyers North Africa in partnership with Gide Loyrette Nouel leverage their international networks to win a significant proportion of major cross-border deals.
