Albors Galiano Portales represents shipowners, charterers and operators in dry shipping disputes, and advises on maritime law. Recent work includes handling several cargo insurance claims and accidents such as a fire on board the Maersk Honam. Name partners Eduardo Albors, Javier Galiano and Javier Portales are all held in high regard, with Alfonso de Ochoa another name to note.

Boutique firm Avante Legal provides 'personal attention' to P&I clubs, insurance companies and shipowners. It advised Remolcanosa on the acquisition of three new tug boats and, in other work, represented Boluda Corporación Marítima in judicial proceedings against Generali concerning damages suffered by the tug vessel VB Octeville. In Madrid, Julio Quiroga and associate Hannah de Bustos are recommended, and in Vigo Antonio Quirós and Jacobo Tojeiro.

Meana Green Maura & Co provides 'sound and pragmatic advice' on maritime accidents. For example, it advised Baja Ferries on the Caribbean Fantasy fire case, and continues assisting Costa Crociere with over 150 passenger claims concerning the capsized Costa Concordia. Its newly opened fourth office, in Algeciras, is managed by senior associate Juan Montenegro Martínez. Jaime Soroa, Pedro Maura and Edmund Sweetman are key names.

Mestre Abogados provides 'very effective results', 'personal treatment' and is 'able to handle cases anywhere in the world thanks to its great network'. Recent contentious work includes representing Nissan Europe in a dispute concerning a mooring contract, and defending Trasmediterránea in several personal injury claims. Generali, Marina Barcelona 92 and The Yacht Consultant are also clients. Yachting market expert Teresa Font is 'dynamic, efficient and decisive' and has a 'vast network', and Andrés Candomeque 'fights all cases with passion'. He leads the group together with the 'wise and hard-working' Anna Mestre.

With 11 lawyers across seven offices in Spain, maritime, transport and insurance boutique SAN SIMON & DUCH is able to handle a broad range of maritime issues. Recent examples are acting for Hanseatic Underwriters on the sinking of a fleet of several vessels; assisting Smit Salvage with the salvage of Maersk Honam; and advising Navantia on entering into several contracts for vessel repairs. Luis de San Simón and Mercedes Duch are the founding partners.

Uría Menéndez handles vessel arrests and accidents and has a particular focus on shipbuilding contracts. It advised Astilleros de Santander on an agreement with a Dutch shipping company for the finalisation of a new-build dredger following the insolvency of the original shipyard. The team, which includes Carlos López-Quiroga, Tomás Fernández-Quirós and managing associate Luz Martínez de Azcoitia, has a strong Scandinavian client base.

Aiyon Abogados SLP recently opened its fourth office in the port city of Algeciras. It handled vessel groundings and accidents, issues related to an oil spill and damage claims. Verónica Meana, Enrique Ortiz and Mikel Garteizgoxeaskoa are recommended.

Having handled instructions in nearly 30 Spanish ports, Arizon Abogados SLP has a particularly strong regional network. Clients include charterers, shippers, receivers and carriers. Managing partner Felipe Arizon is 'reliable' and 'very fast'.

J&A Garrigues SLP acts for clients such as Iberconsa and Freiremar. Las Palmas-based Manuel Betancor advised another key client, Naviera Armas, on the collision of the Volcán de Tamasite vessel with the seawall of the port. Madrid-based counsel Jesus Barbadillo is another name to note.

Shipping and insurance boutique PEREZ ALBORS | & CO has five offices across Spain and one in the Gran Canaria capital. It assisted Generali with an insurance claim concerning the collision of the Detroit Jet vessel, which was insured by the client, with L'Atlantida, which subsequently sank. In addition to insurance claims, Carlos Perez handles vessel arrests, accidents and disputes across all maritime matters.

Rogers & Co. Abogados' Anglophone practice is a 'rare find in the Spanish market'. It assisted Addax Energy with a loss and recovery claim against the Volcán de Tamasite shipowner following the passenger ferry's crash into the jetty where the client operates. Marie Rogers, Luis Alberto García and David Diez are a 'part of the client's team rather than just external lawyers'.

Traditional maritime boutique Ruiz-Gálvez Abogados SLP is based in Madrid with a second office in Valencia. It offers a broad range of maritime law advice. Felix Ruiz-Galvez and Fernando Ruiz-Galvez Villaverde are held in high regard.

Thomas Cooper LLP specialises in admiralty and casualty matters and other civil claims. It regularly assists sea search and rescue agency Sasemar with recovering premiums, awards and unpaid invoices for salvage and tug services. Juan Alegre, Bernardo Ruiz Lima and Ernesto Rivera are recommended.

Watson Farley & Williams LLP advises shipowners on tax leases, with Luleå Hamn among its clients. Alfredo Cabellos also assisted Greenalia Logistics with the acquisition of a second-hand vessel.

With offices in Spain, the UK, Portugal and Brazil, Abogados Asociados para el Comercio, la Navegación y la Industria is an expert in cross-border maritime disputes. Albert Badia is noted.

With a focus on maritime and corporate law, the four partner-strong Actam Abogados handles the full range of insurance, financing and freight matters. A significant part of the practice is vessel registration, including with the Canary Islands special ship register. Juan Ignacio Beitia Bastida is recommended.

At Cuatrecasas,¬†dispute resolution specialist¬†I√Īigo Quintana¬†handles port law and international trade matters. For example, he advised Armshore Investments, owner of the¬†Polar Star¬†vessel, on claiming its repossession from a repair shipyard.

G√≥mez-Acebo & Pombo¬†is a strong name for shipping finance, mostly advising lenders. For example, it advised¬†CaixaBank and Liberbank on lending¬†‚ā¨25m to¬†Naviera Transchem for¬†the acquisition of an oil/chemical tanker vessel.¬†Senior associate¬†Fernando Herrero¬†is recommended.

Hogan Lovells International LLP¬†has 'strong experience' in the shipping sector, where it focuses on tax lease financings for the construction of vessels. Pymar, Banco Sabadell and Bankinter are clients in the area.¬†Miguel √Āngel S√°nchez¬†is 'experienced and dedicated'.

MA Abogados' Valencia-based shipping group offers a broad service to port terminals, and also handles insurance claims, cargo claims and freight recovery. Carlos Salinas Adelantado and Sara Recatalá Chordá are noted.
