Allen & Overy Legal Services recently advised Gazprombank on a syndicated loan agreement with State Transport Leasing Company, a transaction secured by mortgages over a number of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. Ilya Dvorkin heads the team, which has notable aviation expertise.

Clifford Chance specialises in aircraft repossession matters and restructurings involving Russian airlines, and is currently advising VTB Bank on the refinancing of two Boeing 748 aircraft for Volga-Dnepr Group. Victoria Bortkevicha is the key practitioner.


Jurinflot International Law Office

Jurinflot International law firm is one of the oldest existing law firms in Russia, with over 25 years of unique experience – from its inception, Jurinflot specialised in maritime and transport law. Prior to 1991, the firm functioned as an in-house law department of V/O ‘Sovfracht’ – a Soviet state ship-broking company which dealt with commercial transactions of the Soviet merchant marine worldwide.

DLA Piper handles the finance and leasing of ships and aircraft, transport sector disputes and customs and regulatory issues. Anna Otkina heads the team, and recently acted for AviaAM Financial Leasing on the sale and leaseback of 16 aircraft to Aeroflot.

Vitaly Mozharowski heads the department at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (Russia) LLP, which advises on aircraft finance, international gas pipeline transportation, public transport and logistics matters. Sheremetyevo International Airport, Fasten and Gett are key clients.

Dentons provides ‘very quick response times and good flexibility’; its team ‘works with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail’. Andrei Strijak heads the practice, which recently advised a consortium of lenders on their acquisition of a 25% stake in Pulkovo Airport.

The ‘professional, client-oriented’ team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer recently advised Changi Airports International on its acquisition of shares in Vladivostok International Airport, and is also assisting Sheremetyevo International Airport with its runway regeneration project. Innokenty Ivanov heads the practice.

Norton Rose Fulbright’s practice ‘makes each client feel as though it is the firm’s top priority’, and has notable expertise in aviation, transport infrastructure and shipping matters. Banking specialist Alexander Tsakoev heads the practice.

White & Case LLC has notable expertise in the transport sector, advising a mix of clients including Aeroflot, Natixis Transport Finance and NPO Saturn on financing, restructuring and transactional issues, along with leasing and repossession. Natalia Nikitina is the key figure.

Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners has ‘excellent knowledge of the local justice system while also being aware of the European and global context of each matter’. Alexey Karchiomov heads the team, which recently represented Mediterranean Shipping in a Federal Antimonopoly Service investigation into alleged anticompetitive practices.

Hogan Lovells (CIS) handles the full spectrum of aviation, railway and road-related matters, advising on construction and project financing. Alexander Dolgov is currently advising Transport of Moscow on its RUB500m restructuring, and is also acting for Russian Direct Investment Fund on the construction and financing of several toll railway overpasses.

Liniya Prava Law Firm recently advised AT Consulting on the implementation of its "Road Safety in Astrakhan" project, and also acted for UTair on the restructuring of RUB49bn-worth of debt. Managing partner Andrey Novakovskiy is the name to note.

At Sokolov, Maslov and Partners, highlights included advising Aviapartner on its ground handling and agency activities at various Moscow airports, and representing Farostransflot in a dispute with a shipping company regarding the arrest of a vessel. Sergey Seliverstov and Iftikhar Pirov are the key figures.

Law Firm "Stepanov and Aksuk" is noted for its expertise in maritime law, advising on contract-related issues, vessel registration and disputes involving crew members. Dispute resolution lawyer Inna Makarova heads the team.
