Advokatfirmaet BAHR AS’s full-service practice is recognised for its corporate tax expertise, advising clients on transfer pricing issues, energy tax, cross-border matters and tax litigation. Joachim Bjerke, who leads the department, represented ExxonMobil Production Norway in a transfer pricing dispute. Clients also praise petroleum tax expert Jan Jansen, shipping specialist Frode Talmo, Peter Hammerich and Anne Sofie Bjørkholt, who handles real estate mandates.

Deloitte Advokatfirma AS fields ‘a truly outstanding’ team, which includes team head and M&A specialist Audun Frøland, managing partner Rolf Saastad, head of the business tax and transfer pricing team Hans-Martin Jørgensen, indirect tax expert Alexander With and Tore Paulshus, who advises high-net-worth individuals. Opera Software, Strawberry Group and Circle K are clients.

KPMG Law Advokatfirma ASknows the ins and outs of the field’ and handles corporate tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax and contentious issues for international and domestic clients. Per Ivar Skinstad heads the group, which saw substantial growth; Ola Mæle joined from Advokatfirmaet Thommessen AS, Pedro Leite joined from an in-house position, and Fredrik Klebo-Espe moved from the firm’s London office.

Advokatfirmaet PricewaterhouseCoopers AS’ full-service department, which is ‘without doubt one of the best in Norway’, recently advised FSN on the tax elements of its acquisition of a stake in Active Brands, and represented Seabird Exploration in tax litigation against the Norwegian tax authorities. Trond Ingebrigtsen leads the general tax team, while Morten Beck heads the transfer pricing practice and Ståle Wangen is head of the international tax group. Clients also praise Knut Ekern, who is ‘responsive and highly practical in his approach’.

Advokatfirmaet Thommessen AS has ‘incredibly strong legal and analytical skills’, which allows for ‘thorough and clear advice that can always be relied upon’. Practice head Finn Backer-Grøndahl acted for PRA Group in a penalty tax dispute against the tax authorities; the department also handles transactional issues and cross-border mandates.

Ståle Kristiansen, Hanne Skaarberg Holen and ‘absolutely brilliant’ managing associate Bjørn Christian Lilletvedt Tovsen are other names to note.

Bettina Banoun leads Wiersholm’s ‘outstanding’ group, which ‘has excellent business knowledge, enabling to-the-point and commercial advice’ across corporate tax issues and tax litigation. Clients include Statoil, Ikea, Saga Tankers and Songa Offshore. The ‘brilliantAndreas Bullen is recommended for transfer pricing issues, Morten Goller handles contentious matters and Nicolay Vold focuses on corporate tax.

Corporate tax expert Anders Heieren leads Arntzen de Besche’s ‘stand-out practice’ and advised Edge Petroleum on the tax elements of its establishment. Other key names to note include the ‘brilliantRune Tjomsås Andersen; Cecilie Dyrnes, who focuses on indirect tax issues; and restructuring expert Ulf Werner Andersen. International tax specialist Eyvind Sandvik made partner.

Ernst & Young Advokatfirma AS’ department is led by Øystein Arff Gulseth, and also counts Gjert Melsom and Øyvind Hovland as names to note. Transfer pricing expert Marius Leivestad moved to the firm’s Johannesburg office.

Advokatfirmaet Haavind AS provides ‘a swift, accurate and highly professional service’ under the ‘first-class leadership’ of Espen Nordbø. Nils Flesland Bull heads the standalone indirect tax group, which focuses on VAT and customs duties, and Arne Haavind is recommended for contentious mandates.

Boutique firm Harboe & Co AS covers the full gamut of tax issues and fields an ‘exceptional’ team, which includes founding partner Einar Harboe, international tax specialist Ivar Hobbelhagen, Harald Hauge and oil and gas expert Christian Grevstad.

Advokatfirmaet Schjødt AS’ ‘fantastic’ department ‘always provides the right expertise and guidance’ on corporate structuring and tax litigation. Team head Cecilie Amdahl handles corporate tax issues and Morten Sandli is ‘very focused on solving problems in the best possible way’; he advised Stangeskovene on a group restructuring. Hugo Matre, VAT expert Trond Larsen and Peter Hiorth also receive praise.

The ‘highly dedicated’ practice at Selmer counts team head Sverre Hveding and Einar Bakko as key practitioners. Bakko recently advised Norwegian Ship & Offshore Services on international tax treaty issues, and Hveding represented Endure in a tax dispute. Senior lawyer Are Fagerhaug handles indirect tax matters.

Wikborg Rein is recommended for handling offshore, shipping, energy and real estate tax mandates; highlights included representing the Norwegian Oil Taxation Office in a dispute against Statoil relating to transfer pricing issues, and advising Storebrand Eiendom on the tax issues surrounding a commercial property development. Anders Myklebust leads the group, Are Zachariassen focuses on tax structuring and Kaare Andreas Shetelig handles litigation.

Advokatfirmaet Grette DA primarily focuses on the biotech, pharmaceutical, technology and energy sectors, advising a client roster, which includes Atlantic Petroleum, Oceanteam and Mettler Toledo. Practice head Thomas Alnæs focuses on corporate tax matters, and Tore Karlsson is recommended for VAT and international tax advice.

Amund Noss and Frode Olsen jointly lead Kluge Advokatfirma AS’ tax litigation and advisory groups respectively. The group is highly regarded for its contentious expertise, and has a notable focus on the petroleum sector; clients include ConocoPhillips Norge, Total E&P Norge and Dong E&P Norge.

SANDS provides ‘an excellent level of service’. The team includes practice head Ulf Sørdal, who is ‘the tax litigator you want fighting your corner’; corporate tax specialist Ernst Ravnaas, and the ‘brilliant’ Stig Nordal. Key clients include Domino’s Pizza, Siemens and Moods of Norway.

At Advokatfirmaet Simonsen Vogt Wiig, practice head Christian Svensen is ‘smart with a high level of integrity and extremely broad knowledge of the field’, and Tor Olaf Espeland handles tax compliance mandates. The team also deals with tax structuring matters, disputes and corporate issues.

Brækhus Advokatfirma DA’s practice is divided into three subgroups: the corporate income tax department led by John Spissøy and Toralv Follestad, Antonio Holstad’s individual income tax team and the indirect tax practice, led by Nils Eriksen.

Preben Aas leads the M&A-focused practice at DLA Piper, which was bolstered by the recruitment of corporate tax specialist Jonas Aartun from an in-house position. Clients include Ikea, Pfizer and IK Gruppen.
