Allen & Gledhill (Myanmar) Co., Ltd is valued for its ‘level of performance and short response times’ and the 'very flexible' team possesses ‘practical knowledge’. Baker McKenzie Yangon's team provides an ‘excellent service’ and includes managing partner Jo Daniels, who is singled out for her ‘subject matter knowledge, timeliness of responses and great personality’, and associate Dustin Combs, who is valued for his ‘cultural awareness’. The team acts for a number of multinational clients on high-value projects in the transport, telecoms, energy and construction sectors. Daniels advised the Asian Development Bank and the Myanmar Ministry of Construction on the contractual arrangements for the Yangon-Pathein road project.

DFDL Legal & Tax's team includes managing partner William Greenlee Jr., who focuses on M&A, project finance and projects across the region; Nick Towle, who acts for major international investors, and the ‘very knowledgeable and responsive’ Nishant Choudhary, who has been promoted to deputy managing director. The team handled significant project finance work and advised Alibaba on its entry into the Myanmar online marketplace, making it the country's largest online retailer.

Duane Morris & Selvam (Myanmar) Limited's team is the ‘first choice for foreign direct investment and energy projects in Myanmar’. Key sectors for the team, which ‘matches clients’ expectations with regards to the quality of advice, response time and value for money’, include oil and gas, renewables, telecoms, infrastructure, real estate and manufacturing. It assisted Global Power Synergy with its cross-border acquisition of two solar power plants and project companies in Myanmar worth in excess of $500m, a matter led by Krishna Ramachandra.

Lucy Wayne & Associates, Ltd has significant experience across the region and has handled a large number of projects in Myanmar and Vietnam with over $10bn of total investment value. Key individuals in the team are Lucy Wayne, who has 25 years’ experience as a Vietnam registered foreign lawyer, and U Win Naing.

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto (Yangon) Limited has cross-border experience coupled with strong local knowledge. Names to note are Takeshi Mukawa, who focuses on infrastructure, energy and financing matters, and Kana Manabe, who in a large-scale real estate matter advised Tokyo Tatemono on its $330m development of a commercial complex in Yangon’s city centre. The team also assisted logistics operator Kamigumi with gaining a port concession.

Myanmar Legal Services Limited has extensive projects experience across Myanmar. It has handled the construction, financing and operation of a copper mine, advised on the construction of an onshore pipeline project, acted for a foreign firm on a Myanmar hydropower project and assisted Thai banks with a solar energy project financing. Khin Cho Kyi is the name to note.

VDB Loi's energy team advised on a large number of potential LNG projects and assisted the World Bank and the Japanese government with regulatory reforms in this space. In also handles several telecoms-sector as well as infrastructure-sector projects, and assisted a client with the project financing for the expansion of a hotel chain. Notable names include senior counsel Jeffrey Martin, who advises on project finance, secured lending, commodities lending and corporate finance matters, and associate Alan McCabe, who has a focus on thermal projects.
