Anjarwalla & Khanna is a leader in big-ticket syndicated financings, where the firm as gained a market share in a segment typically inhabited by international law firms. It is gaining additional engagements from development finance institutions (DFIs) and foreign banks. The firm has also made an impression in insolvency, restructurings and distressed financings. It advised M-Kopa Kenya on a syndicated loan arranged by Stanbic Bank Kenya and several DFIs. Akash Devani and Sonal Sejpal are outstanding practitioners, while Mona Doshi is a key team member. Anne Muruka is a name to note at senior associate level.

Bowmans has a depth of resources, expertise and experience in financings and debt capital markets. The team has made considerable progress in fintech, structured finance, commodities finance, financial restructurings and subordinated debt financings for Kenyan banks. Moreover, it advised the government of Kenya on its $2bn sovereign bond listed on the London Stock Exchange. It also assisted Kenya Airways with its balance sheet restructuring, which included $750m of sovereign guarantees from the government of Kenya to the airline's creditors. Paras Shah 'works hard to get the deal across the line'; Kamami Christine Michira is recommended for financial regulatory matters and fintech, along with debt restructuring expert Richard Harney and senior corporate finance specialist Cornelius Kigera. The group was further bolstered by the recent hire of Stephen Matthews, the former head of banking at Allen & Overy LLP's Moscow office.

Hamilton Harrison & Mathews handled headline work in its role as adviser to nine Kenyan banks on the restructuring plan proposed by Kenya Airways to all of its creditors. The firm advises a range of domestic and international lenders, while benefiting from being part of Dentons' international network. 'The firm presents a good spread of services under one roof' and 'partners are readily available to discuss issues'. Andrew Mugambi has an outstanding reputation, while Richard Omwela provides additional senior-level gravitas. Adil Khawaja and Lorna Mainnah are recommended for real estate finance, with Sigee Koech also noted for rounded financing expertise.

Iseme, Kamau & Maema Advocates' active practice is founded on consistent workflows in real estate finance, supplemented by a flourishing presence in syndicated lending and project finance. The team has seen a growing number of engagements from DFIs. The firm advised CDC Group on the financing of a 40MW solar project in Malindi, Kilifi County, Kenya. 'The team quickly executes its assignments', 'the partners and associates are subject experts' and the partners are 'experienced', 'professional', 'easy to work with and very courteous'. Anne Kinyanjui has an outstanding record, as does Norah Mutuku and senior name James Kamau.

Kaplan & Stratton Advocates operates a substantial team with a high profile in project, acquisition and corporate financings, along with other segments such as sovereign bonds. The firm has achieved a greater flow of engagements from DFIs and Chinese lenders. It advised the banks on the Kenyan government's KES200bn bond issuance on the London Stock Exchange. Oliver Fowler brings unrivalled senior skill and technical expertise to the team, while Binti Shah adds exceptional domestic and cross-border experience. Ruth Kirunga is another key team member.

Walker Kontos Advocates has maintained activity levels through a series of engagements in distressed debt and insolvency. It advised Stanbic Bank Kenya on the proposed term loan and working capital facilities for Kenafric Industries. It remains a market leader in debt capital markets transactions. Michael Kontos and Deepen Shah have excellent reputations.

Daly & Inamdar Advocates has an excellent record in capital markets issuances and through its extensive resources it is frequently engaged for corporate and project finance. Julius Wako is an experienced financing practitioner.

Mboya Wangong'u & Waiyaki Advocates is noted for its record in capital markets issuances, including IPOs, rights issues and corporate bonds, along with securitisation and derivatives transactions; it has worked on a series of market-first deals. It advised Absa Barclays on the establishment of the first-ever exchange traded fund in Kenya for new gold issue, involving a secondary listing of gold bullion debentures on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Peter Waiyaki is highly recommended

MMAN Advocates remains noted for corporate lending and aviation finance work with Suzanne Muthaura and Waringa Njonjo to the fore. It advised Export Import Bank of the United States on a $525m sovereign guarantee by the Republic of Kenya.

Oraro & Company Advocates has solid connections to the top banks in Kenya, advising on a range of corporate loans, structured finance, syndicated loans and real estate financings; the firm advises two of the largest real estate developers in the jurisdiction. It also advised the government of Kenya on the operational and financial restructuring of Kenya Airways. Pamella Ager is the key partner, while George Oraro provides further senior gravitas.
