Bech-Bruun fields a ‘good and professional’ insurance practice that covers the whole range of contentious and non-contentious matters, with recent work for the three-partner team spanning regulatory issues, as well as insurance litigation and mediation. Henrik Valdorf-Hansen represents the City of Copenhagen against Tryg Insurance and Codan Insurance in relation to a fire in a municipality property. Jes Anker Mikkelsen and Anne Buhl Bjelke, who is ‘always ready to provide the best answer’, represent two accountants in two indemnity lawsuits connected to the collapse of Eik Bank.

Demonstrating ‘short response times, in-depth industry knowledge and business acumen’, DLA Piper Denmark’s insurance department attracts praise for its ‘legal and strategical advice’ and ‘team of specialists’. Practice head Georg Lett is ‘one of the most well-esteemed litigators in the country, with in-depth knowledge in both litigation and insurance’. Among his recent work, Lett acted for an insurance company on D&O coverage claims against the board of a collapsed bank, and with Pernille Sølling defended SEB Pension in a Supreme Court case related to the warranty of an annual minimum interest.

Recommended for ‘an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Danish insurance market’, Gorrissen Federspiel attracts a wide range of insurance companies, brokers and corporate clients, including P&I clubs such as Gard, Skuld and Britannia. The group handles the full array of contentious and non-contentious insurance and reinsurance cases with a special expertise in product liability and recall, professional liability, commercial liability, personal injury and workers compensation. A key case for practice head and ‘star advocateHenriette Gernaa is the representation of Deloitte Denmark in various professional negligence cases related to the O.W. Bunker bankruptcy.

Unrivalled insurance law expertise’ is the strength of Kennedys. The 20-strong team handles a comprehensive mix of corporate, compliance and litigious matters for clients such as Tryg Forsikring, Zurich Insurance and Allianz. ‘Particularly strong’ Morten Erritzøe Christensen represents XL Insurance Company, Navigators and QBE Insurance in a dispute related to the IPO insurance for O.W. Bunker, while ‘very competent’ Jesper Ravn acted for the Association of Danish Football League Clubs in an arbitration concerning insurance programs for professional football players. Other names to note are ‘capable, smart and pragmatic’ Allan Kvist-Kristensen and ‘very good’ Thomas Dall Jensen. Very experiencedPlesner represents insurance companies and pension funds, including Topdanmark, SEB Pension and XL Insurance, in all insurance-related matters. The four-partner team, which is led by ‘knowledgeable, skilled and competent’ Torben Bondrop is particularly strong in product liability, commercial liability, workmen’s compensation and personal injury matters. Recent mandates include the representation of LEGO Systems in a Supreme Court case against IF Insurance which concerned the termination of the excess layer on the property and BI cover, and also acting for Rambøll Danmark and their insurer Tryg Forsikring in a liability case.

At Horten, group head Jacob Møller Dirksen is ‘very impressive’ and recommended for his ‘analytical skills’. The team is best known for its contentious work, handling cases related to D&O, professional, product and construction liability and coverage issues. Highlights include the representation of Zurich Insurance in a dispute following the fire at the Copenhagen Experimentarium, as well as the defence of Topdanmark and its insured in a product liability case in the medical sector.

Kromann Reumert fields a robust insurance practice with strong skill sets in corporate matters and litigation. Henrik Thal Jantzen recently represented Codan Insurance in a Supreme Court case against MAPFRE related to double insurance. The team is led by well-regarded Jens Rostock-Jensen and includes maritime insurance expert Jakob Rosing, as well as M&A partners Jens Steen Jensen and Jacob Høeg Madsen. The client roster includes Tryg Forsikring, Zurich, Danica Pensions and SEB Pensions.

Andersen Partners assists insurance companies, corporate clients and public authorities with all matters related to insurance and liability law. Department head Ulrik Christrup recently represented five members of the Wonderful Copenhagen board in a compensation claim related to the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. The group also includes Jakob Blicher Ravnsbo who specialises in professional liability matters.

Lundgrens shows particular strength in life insurance and professional liability matters and acts for domestic and international clients such as Codan, Lloyd’s of London and HDI Gerling. Recent mandates involved representing PFA Pension and Topdanmark Liv in compensation claims related to disability pension. Practice head Jesper Hjetting is recommended.

Responsive, efficient and proactiveLundsgaard & Partnere provides the ‘highest standard’ for its broad client portfolio, including AIG Europe, CNA Hardy Insurance and Codan Insurance. ‘Very experienced and strategicSøren Lundsgaard and junior partner Arianne Svardal-Stelmer represent the former board chairman of Amagerbanken on behalf of the insurer in a liability case related to the bank’s bankruptcy. Lotte Noer is ‘absolutely talented’.

Under the leadership of Michael Wiisbye, Nielsen Nørager fields a solid insurance practice that handles both contentious and non-contentious matters. The department represents Danish and international insurers, including Alka, Codan Insurance, Topdanmark and HDI Gerling. Jan Presfeldt assists If Skadeforsikring on an ongoing basis.

WSCO Advokatpartnerselskab’s insurance group regularly acts for insurers and pension funds in liability and compensation cases. The team, under the lead of David Rubin, continues to advise Tryg Forsikring on marine cargo, loss of hire and CAR insurance for wind turbine sector clients.
