Dentons is active across corporate, contentious, regulatory, and banking and finance matters in the projects and energy space. It advised CEE Equity Partners on its acquisition of three Czech subsidiaries of ContourGlobal. The team was bolstered by the arrival of Petr Zákoucký from Clifford Chance in 2017; he now heads the energy team. Senior counsel Petr Slach, counsel Jan Procházka, Jiří Tomola, John Stansfield and Ladislav Štorek are the other names to note.

The ‘proactive, business-orientated’ team at Kinstellar handles a range of high-profile projects and energy mandates. It continued to advise NET4GAS on the €650m development to connect the Polish and Czech markets with a new gas pipeline, and advised ČEPS on the retrofitting of photovoltaic power plants located in the Czech Republic. The ‘very experienced’ Kamil Blažek heads the team.

Weil, Gotshal & Manges s.r.o. advokátní kancelář regularly advises on energy and infrastructure projects, and has particular expertise in the transport sector. The team has been advising the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic on several matters, including disputes, in relation to the D47 highway in the Czech Republic. ČEZ Group is also a key client. Karel Muzikar and Petr Severa jointly head the team.

White & Case (Europe) LLP’s team is adept at infrastructure, energy, and natural resources projects, has ‘strong negotiation skills’ and is noted for its financing expertise. It has been advising ČEZ Distribuce on the public procurement process for core and non-core supplies, services and construction works, and acted for Česká spořitelna as arranger on working capital financing for OTE. The ‘goal-oriented’ Vít Stehlík and David Plch jointly head the team. Pavel Čížek is also recommended.

Allen & Overy services clients on infrastructure projects and energy deals throughout CEE and SEE. It is noted for its financing expertise, and is advising Asian Development Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on $160m-worth of committed financing for Electric Networks Armenia to enhance an electricity distribution network. Václav Valvoda and Warsaw-based Dan Cocker head the team. Counsel Robert David is also recommended.

CMS’ ‘knowledgeable’ team advises international energy and other infrastructure companies on their investments and disposals in the Czech Republic. It is particularly noted for its renewables sector expertise, and advised Energy 21 regarding CEE Equity Partners’ investment into the company. Team head Lukáš Janíček is ‘very effective in negotiations and resolving issues’.

Clifford Chance is praised for its cross-border projects and energy expertise, and draws particularly on its banking and finance experience. It advised Československá obchodní banka, and Česká spořitelna on the refinancing of Vršanská Uhelná, Severní energetická and Sev.en EC. David Koláček is the key contact. Petr Zákoucký joined Dentons in 2017.

With ‘deep industry knowledge’, Kocián Šolc Balaštík stands out for its ‘strong’ expertise in energy projects. It advised Energo-Pro on the financing for the construction of a hydropower plant in Karakurt, Turkey. It has also been advising Biomass to Energy Benkovac and Biomass to Energy Ž on the construction of two biomass power plants in Croatia. Václav Rovenský specialises in energy and environmental law. Dagmar Dubecká and Christian Blatchford are also noted.

PRK Partners is active across energy, natural resources and infrastructure projects, and is advising a consortium of developers comprising Cintra, Porr, and Macquarie Capital Holdings on the public procurement and implementation of a road development project. Jakub Lichnovský and Martin Kříž are noted.

Wolf Theiss handles large transactions and projects in the energy field. Counsel Jan Kotous advised Lukoil on the liquidation of its Czech subsidiary Lukoil Aviation Czech, and also acted for Veolia Energie ČR on the insolvency of its business partner OKD.

bpv Braun Partners s.r.o. is ‘experienced’ in energy sector mandates, and advises Juli New Energy Deutschland on its sale of power plants in the Czech Republic. Dobrá energie, 3fficiency and E.On are also clients. Marc Müller heads the team; Pavel Vincík, David Vosol and managing associate Michal Hrabovský are also recommended.

The ‘strong’ team at Baker & McKenzie s.r.o., advokátní kancelář is noted for its finance and transactional expertise. It advised Total and MOL on the disposal of their into-fuel joint-venture at a Prague airport to Levorato-Marcevaggi. Tomáš Skoumal leads the team; Alexandr César is also recommended.

Glatzová & Co., s.r.o. is commended for its ‘client care’, and has been advising MND in connection with the negotiation and conclusion of EFET gas and electricity contracts. Vladimíra Glatzová, the ‘very experienced’ Martin Dančišin and senior associate Erik Kolan jointly lead the team.

Randa Havel Legal stands out for its ‘technical knowledge’, and is advising Plynostav – regulace plynu in claims related to the construction of the Gazelle gas pipeline. Department head Jan Havel is ‘very pragmatic’.

Rowan Legal is regularly engaged in public procurement and PPP mandates, particularly in the energy, water, waste management and infrastructure sectors. It advised SVS on several matters including a water supply infrastructure project. Vilém Podešva heads the department.
