Carey's 47-strong projects practice -including seven partners- 'offers good transactional support and is very knowledgeable about Chile's engineering and construction industry'. It also has significant experience in industry sectors such as mining, ports and airports, hospitals, hotels, real estate, and shipyards. In energy, the team fields experts in liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, wind, solar and hydro power, and gas-fired power plants. Recent work saw the team advise state-owned copper mining company, Codelco, with the structuring of the bidding documents and contracts under a build, own, operate and transfer structure for the development of a $1bn desalination plant. In other highlights, the team acted for Transelec, through its affiliate Transelec Concesiones, on the $375m project financing for the construction, operation and maintenance of four transmission lines and their related facilities, including substations. Co-head of the firm’s engineering and construction group, Oscar Aitken 'has great knowledge of the legal issues commonly seen in the construction and mining industries in Chile'; while energy group head Juan Francisco Mackenna 'knows the market very well and provides the best solutions'. Clients include AES Gener,¬†Intervial Chile,¬†Glenfarne Group,¬†Energ√≠a Llaima and InterEnergy Holdings; recent matters saw the team act for Alto Maipo (and sponsor AES Gener) on the $3bn refinancing of a 531MW hydroelectric project involving two run-of-river facilities. It also assisted Deutsche Bank Securities, as lender, with the $115m financing for 12 photovoltaic (PV) projects. 'A standout practitioner' who is 'deeply experienced', practice head Rodrigo Ochagav√≠a focuses primarily on project finance and transacctions, especially in regulated sectors; other key advisers include Jorge Mart√≠n (concessions and transactional project matters),¬†Luisa N√ļ√Īez (cross border corporate and project finance, energy),¬†Jos√© Luis Ambrosy (corporate and project finance) and¬†Ariel Mihovilovic (energy and project finance). Morales & Besa is 'speedy, efficient and adapts to clients' needs'. The 10-strong practice has a strong reputation in the market for its assistance to financiers, investors and developers with the development and financing of energy and infrastructure projects. Key clients include Intervial, WPD Chile, Banco Security, Globalvía and Meridiam Infrastructure; the team is representing the latter, a major infrastructure investor and the concessionaire of a major, $200m hospital project in relation to issues caused by the insolvency of Italy-based constructor Astaldi. It also advised EIG Global Energy Partners, and its Chilean subsidiaries, on a $127m project financing for the Cerro Dominador power plants project. Carlos Silva (infrastructure and energy projects development), José Miguel Carvajal and Myriam Barahona (both focusing on project finance) head the practice. Also highly regarded are Eugenio Besa (transactions, project finance) and Macarena Laso (public concessions, real estate, construction and infrastructure), while notable associates include James Channing (construction, real estate, project finance), who 'does a good job', Javier Balbontín (project finance), and Sebastián Leyton (energy, natural resources, projects).

Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría is widely respected for its experience in Chilean projects, particularly in relation to renewable energy and mining. Additional infrastructure areas include transportation, hospitals, schools, telecoms, water and sewerage systems, and real estate development. The 10-strong team acts for clients including Antofagasta Minerals, Intervial Chile and Sacyr Concesiones Chile; indeed, recent mandates include assisting Antofagasta affiliate Minera Centinela with the $117m sale of Centinela Transmisión (which owns three transmission lines), to Red Eléctrica Chile. Other work saw the team advise Intervial and Cintra Servicios de Infraestructura, as members of a consortium that participated in the bidding process for a highway concession. Carlos Alberto Reyes (energy transactions, project development and finance) and Andrés Sanfuentes (banking, finance and infrastructure projects) co-lead the team. The 26-strong team at Barros & Errázuriz advises developers, sponsors, constructors, operators, suppliers and financiers on the development and financing of large infrastructure and energy projects. Clients include Mitsui & Co, Banco Santander and Interchile; and recent highlights include advising Sociedad Concesionaria Vespucio Oriente (as project company), and Sacyr Concesiones and Aleatica (as sponsors), on the long-term project financing for an urban toll road concession. Eperienced partners Nicolás Balmaceda, Francisco De la Barra and Fernando Garrido are all highly regarded; following Gonzalo Molina's retirement from the practice, Bernardo Simian has moved from the firm's M&A group to replace him. Cariola D√≠ez P√©rez-Cotapos' client base for projects includes private equity funds, mining companies and industrial entities. Representative work includes advising on the development and construction issues of power plant and transportation projects, as well as M&A, financing and planning aspects. Recent mandates saw the team advise Chile's Banco de Cr√©dito e Inversiones on the financing for a 20MW hydroelectric generation plant.¬†Senior and managing partner Jos√© Luis Letelier, Carlos P√©rez-Cotapos¬†and Juan Pablo Matus¬†are the key contacts, along with Cristi√°n Herrera, Gonzalo Grez, Gonzalo Jim√©nez¬†and Rodrigo Sep√ļlveda.

Baker McKenzie Chile is well known for its mining sector expertise; the practice has also grown more active in renewable energy projects, desalination plants, ports and roads. Clients include Mantos Copper, Macquarie Capital, Xiana Mining and Camposol; the team advised Mantos with a tender for two engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the expansion of mineral processing plants. Mirco Hilgers, Jaime Munro and Diego Ferrada are the principal contacts; Francisco Nualart, Santiago Vial and Andrés Lecaros are the associates to note.

Bofill, Mir & √Ālvarez Jana¬†has particular expertise in mining-related projects, but the practice is also well known for advising on power generation facilities, ports, airports, and real estate developments. Significant clients include¬† Innovaci√≥n Energ√≠a (IE),¬†Oceanus Power & Water, EuroAm√©rica, Ferrostaal and El√©ctrica Puntilla; the team assisted IE,¬†a joint venture between Energ√≠a Latina and Empresas Gasco, with the development of an electricity generation plant. CMS Carey & Allende's 'team combines commercial and corporate skills with specific regulatory knowledge'. The practice covers¬†power transmission, renewable energy, land easements, EPC contracts and related water rights; it has particular specialisation in energy, agribusiness and telecoms projects. Clients include Hidroel√©ctrica Do√Īa Alicia,¬†WPD and¬†Solarpack; in recent work, the team advised construction company EDEMSA regarding a new transmission line that will help connect two of Chile's energy networks.¬†Jorge Allende Z, Luis Felipe Arze,¬†Fernando De C√°rcer¬†and Pabla Ga√≠nza¬†are experienced practitioners.

DLA Piper (Chile) assists with the development of a range of projects, including PV power plants, desalination facilities and real estate. The team advised SLM NX Uno de Peine on the development of the NX project, a joint venture for the development of a potassium and lithium project; its assistance included advice on environmental permits and mining options. Felipe Bahamondez, José Pablo Dulanto and Rodrigo Alvarez are all experienced practitioners.

Guerrero Olivos is highly regarded for its advice on highways, airports, power plants, industrial facilities, NLG re-gasification terminals and water desalination plants. Active clients include I Squared Capital, Building Energy, Andean Tower Partners and Santiago Metals. In recent work the team advised Sumitomo on a potential joint venture with Codelco for lithium exploration. Sebastián Yunge, Clemente Pérez and Sebastián Abogabir are the principal contacts; Martín Santa María and Pedro Lyon are also experienced advisers.

Molina Ríos Abogados has longstanding experience in construction, energy and infrastructure projects, including PPP matters. It has advised on projects involving highways, railways, ports and airports, hospitals, gas pipelines, aqueducts and power stations, among other areas. Recent work includes assisting Spain's Acciona with the construction of major public hospitals. Alessandri & Compa√Ī√≠a Abogados¬†advises on the planning, financing, construction and contentious aspects of projects in the real estate, ports and mining sectors, among others. Recent matters include assisting Bravo e Izquierdo with a mixed housing and hotel project contract.¬†Juan Pablo Halpern¬†is highly regarded and real estate specialist Arturo Pino¬†was made partner in 2018.

Garrigues Chile hired experienced infrastructure lawyer and public law specialst Claudio Moraga from Estudio Miquel in Januar 2019 as team head. He joins a now eight-strong practice that is particularly strong in energy and infrastructure financing. Recent work includes advising a syndicate of 11 banks on the financing for a water desalination project and a pipeline to a copper mine. Chadwick & Reymond¬†is focused on litigation with the state that involves construction materials and public works concessions, as well as disputes between private companies; the team acted for Constructora Salfa in its claim against the Ministry of Public Works for payment for a public bridge's construction.¬†Alfonso Reymond Larra√≠n¬†and Rodrigo Riquelme Y√°√Īez¬†are the main advisers.
