North West practice Hibberts LLP is a leading full-service law firm with offices throughout Cheshire and Shropshire. The firm acts for a wide range of clients and is noted in particular for its expertise in agriculture, property, tax and trusts work.

The firm: Hibberts LLP was formed in 1799 and has offices in Nantwich, Tarporley, Crewe, Ellesmere and Whitchurch.

In certain fields of expertise, the firm vies with City practices. Its client base includes some of the largest country estates and landowners in Wales and the North West. It acts for major firms of agricultural surveyors and land agents, property developers and for the Church of England (Chester Diocese), for which it acts in educational property matters. Other clients include companies and businesses of all sizes, including major national hauliers, and individuals prominent in many areas, such as the professions and the entertainment world. The service provided by the firm is informal and friendly, as well as efficient and business-like. Care is taken to ensure that value for money is received in all cases.

Types of work undertaken: Hibberts LLP has particular expertise in all types of agricultural and estates work, including the sale and purchase of farms and agricultural land, diversification, farm business and agricultural tenancies, farming structures, partnership matters and regularly undertakes work at the First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber). Wanda Goodhead provides detailed knowledge of renewables with John Gibbons undertaking both agricultural and commercial work.

The company and commercial department, headed by Carolyn Brooksbank, deals with a wide range of matters, including MBOs, shareholder agreements, company formations, options and share purchases. Keith Cutler mirrors her work.

The commercial property department, led by Martyn Measures, handles a very wide range of work, including retail units, offices and factories. Nicky Platt specialises in the purchase of residential and commercial development sites and options.

The firm has one of the largest residential departments in the region and Land Registry data shows an impressive throughput of registrations relative to a firm of this size. The department prides itself in providing a completely personal service.

High-wealth private client, probate and elderly client services are dealt with by Anne Walley assisted by six colleagues. The tax and trusts department, also led by Anne Walley, is very active, advising on a range of taxation and financial matters.

Matrimonial and family work undertaken includes divorce, separation agreements, prenuptial agreements, contact and residence, as well as all financial aspects of marital breakdown.

The growing civil litigation department, under the leadership of Michael Ward, supports all departments and undertakes an extensive range of work including trusts of land, construction and property disputes, unfair prejudice actions, shareholder and director disputes and regulatory claims. It supports agricultural sector in particular with tribunal, partnership and property litigation. It also has a very substantial and growing contentious probate and inheritance practice and a stand-alone inquest practice in respect of which it is instructed as agents.

Camille Renaudon offers effective advice and representation in employment law cases, including dismissal, redundancy and discrimination. She has particular expertise in Employment Tribunal advocacy.

Debt recovery and possession work is handled by Stewart Bailey.

Hibberts LLP continues to expand in all major areas of work, in particular agriculture, private client and commercial property work. Without heavy City overheads, the firm is competitive on fees and as a result, it continues to increase its client base.
