Position

Specialist Children Act practitioner experienced in all aspects of public and private law work. Regularly undertaking complex trials centred on alleged non-accidental injuries (including brain and ophthalmic injuries, burns, fractures and bruising) and offering particular experience in cases of disputed obstetric injury and haematological disorders. Additionally she is experienced in child sexual abuse cases including serial intergenerational abuse and abusive images. Appearing in all tiers of courts and receiving instructions to act for local authorities, parents, guardians and the official solicitor, Kathryn’s caseload encompasses issues of parenting impaired by addictive, psychological and psychiatric disorders, including fabricated and induced illness. Particular interest in cases involving learning disabilities and experience in care work involving deaf parents and the appropriate use of BSL interpretation within a trial setting. In the private law sphere, Kathryn offers experience in complex and serious committal work and finding of fact hearings involving alleged domestic violence, all residence and contact issues and applications for permission to remove children temporarily and permanently from the jurisdiction.

Career

Called 1993; regular speaker at seminars over the years and has provided lecture services for Resolution, Interdisciplinary Domestic Violence Forum as well as individual firms of solicitors; accredited trainer of pupil barristers on the Western Circuit Advocacy Programme.
