Position
A criminal practitioner with experience of commercial law. Increasingly a specialist in fraud, business and regulatory crime. Criminal law: he has acted in every kind of criminal case and at all levels of seriousness and has appeared for the defendant in several high-profile prosecutions. A specialist in fraud, he has acted as leading junior counsel in serious and complex cases. He regularly appears in restraint and confiscation proceedings in the Crown Court and High Court on behalf of companies and individuals (Mareva injunctions, restraining orders, confiscation hearings). Regulatory crime: he has appeared in a range of trading standards and environmental health cases and can accept instructions directly from in-house lawyers. Additionally he appears in VAT and duties tribunals and is increasingly specialist in financial services and company regulation. Civil law: contempt proceedings and defamation law (worked as a libel lawyer at the Daily Mail), VAT disputes and tribunals. Notable cases: SFO v Massingham and others (SFO fraud); HMC&E v Knight (£60m fraud); DTI v Mahady (serious and complex fraud).
