Position

David Pittaway QC is Head of Chambers and was Treasurer of the Inner Temple in 2017. His principal practice areas are medical law, public inquiries, regulatory and disciplinary, product liability, personal injury and insurance law. He is frequently instructed in cases defending high profile clients in both the healthcare and non-healthcare sectors against reputational damage. He is regularly instructed on behalf of claimants and defendants in complex clinical negligence cases. He has a particular interest in cases involving difficult issues on legal and medical causation. He has considerable experience of being instructed in group actions. Between 2013 and 2015 he was instructed in the Hillsborough Inquests acting for the solicitor who advised on the content of the South Yorkshire Police's witness statements. He prosecutes for the Solicitors Regulatory Authority before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and advises medical and non-medical regulators on their procedures. He also acts on behalf of NHS bodies and medical defence societies in public law related matters including the administrative court, tribunals, inquiries and inquests and has substantial experience of large-scale litigation.
