Position

Stephen deals with all aspects of serious crime - murder, drug offences, sexual offences and offences involving child abuse. He has been extensively briefed in cases involving internet crime and internet child pornography. He has acted as leading counsel in a number of high-profile cases, including the recent Yarlswood detention centre case. An RAF trained pilot with wide experience of flying from gliders to fast jets, Stephen has been briefed in aviation cases involving CAA prosecutions, aircraft accidents and parachuting cases. He has also advised a number of sports governing bodies on disciplinary procedures and drug testing, appearing in numerous disciplinary tribunals involving a variety of sports and chairing both disciplinary proceedings and olympic selection appeals. Stephen has experience of successfully defending fitness to practice cases before the General Medical Council. Notable cases: GMC v X - defence, successfully defending GP in three day fitness to practice hearing before the General Medical Council; R v Collins - prosecution, new DNA evidence used to catch rapist twenty years after offence committed. One of the first trials to use LCN and YSTR DNA; R v Robson and others - prosecution, leading counsel prosecuting teachers from a special school. Trial - convicted; R v Roe - prosecution, prosecuting foster parents charged with abuse of children over a number of years. Trial - convicted.

Called 1983; Grays Inn; RAF trained pilot. Director of the British Bobsleigh Association.
