Employment law.
Position
Ijeoma specialises in employment law, including restraint of trade and wrongful dismissal. She has particular expertise in all strands of discrimination law including equal pay. Her practice includes advocacy, drafting, advisory, policy and strategic work. Ijeoma has particular experience of dealing with multi-claimant equal pay cases and this year was taken up with preliminary and jurisdictional hearings in a number of long running local government cases. Ijeoma continues to be instructed in legally difficult and/or factually complex, high-profile and high-value discrimination claims. These have included: disability discrimination claims where multiple impairments and difficult causation issues fall to be determined; sensitive whistle-blowing cases; challenging race discrimination and victimisation complaints and complex direct and indirect sex discrimination and sexual harassments claims. Ijeoma continues to develop her interest in non-employment discrimination work. Ijeoma’s practice has extended to the professional discipline field. She now regularly undertakes work advising and representing healthcare professionals and NHS trusts. Most recently, she has been instructed in a number of medical disciplinary cases which have included applications for injunctive relief. In addition Ijeoma has continued to develop her practice as a mediator conducting a number of multi-day mediations in the health and local government sector. Significant work/case highlights over the past 12 months include: Coventry City Council v Nicholls & others; Gordon, Nijjor, Bissember v Ford Motor Company Ltd; Elegbede v Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd; Birmingham City Council Equal Pay Cases.
