Position

Brian has represented both claimants and defendants at all levels of Court in a variety of hearings for the last 18 years. He has a sound and common sense manner in conference, putting clients at ease and readily explaining complex matters in a comprehensible way. In his personal injury practice, Brian represents clients in trade union, CFA, CCFA and insurer-funded claims. He is instructed by national and regional firms. Brian undertakes multi-track claims involving RTA; MIB; employers’ liability; HSWA; fatal accident; occupiers’ liability; industrial injury and illness; rail crash litigation, brain injury, paraplegia claims and quantum only disposal hearings. Brian has extensive advocacy experience from trials and court applications, in addition to advising, settling case statements, schedules and counter schedules, professional and lay conferences, mediations and round table discussions. Brian has extensive experience of jury and coroner only inquest hearings, representing the deceased’s families and trade union clients as interested parties. Brian also undertakes CICA applications and has provided seminars on a variety of personal injury topics. Significant recent cases include: Rice & Thompson v National Dock Labour Board [2008] EWHC 3216 (QB); Mr Ferdinand Ammah v Kuehne and Nagel Logistics Limited [2009] EWCA Civ 11; Andrew Winyard inquest (2010); Mohammed Mudhir inquest (2009); Shadi Aziz inquest (2008); Emma Hider v Portsmouth City Council (2009); Potters Bar inquest (2010).

Career

Called 1992; Bridewell Chambers 1993-2005; Old Square Chambers 2005-present. Has undertaken voluntary work at the Luton Law Centre; undertaken work experience at the Australian and American Bars; undertaken work experience for City solicitors; worked in-house for a London local authority.
