Position

Barrister with expertise across a range of areas, as follows. In company law (litigation and advisory work); including corporate reconstructions, takeovers and mergers, shareholders disputes, directors’ duties and disqualification; reported cases include British & Commonwealth, Leeds United, Carecraft, Manlon, Barings, UMB v Doherty, Blackspur, Nottingham Forest, Astec and Edwardian Group. In corporate insolvency, reported cases include Arrows, BCCI, Harris Simons, Wallace Smith, Charnley Davies, Galileo Group, Vanilla Accumulation, Hamlet International, Atlantic Computers, Trading Partners, Demaglass, Inn Spirit v Burns and TXU. In personal insolvency and bankruptcy, reported cases include Naeem, Morris v Murjani and Federal Bank of the Middle East v Hadkinson. In regulatory work and financial services, his experience includes extensive appearances in tribunals (including SIB v Lancs and Yorks, and the ‘Flaming Ferraris’ case), public law (ex p Clegg: DTI inspections) and human rights (ex p McCormick and ex p Eastaway), company and insolvency investigations (including Banking Act and criminal), and the use of compelled evidence. In commercial Chancery, including guarantees and securities, fraud and breach of trust, banking, share sale warranties, professional negligence, and disputes concerning the motor industry and motor racing; reported cases include Law Society v KPMG, Phillips v Symes, Fusion v Pertemps, and Sinclair v Versailles Trade Finance.
