Position

Quintin acts for both claimants and insurers (by whom he is often instructed directly and in relation to indemnity issues) and specialises in complex, high-value cases involving difficult engineering, scientific and medical issues. He has extensive experience of construction site accidents, employers liability cases, cases involving the duties of highways authorities and road accidents. Quintin has considerable knowledge of and interest in aircraft systems and heavy goods vehicles – for which he holds an HGV 1 licence – as well as cases involving psychiatric injuries and traumatic brain injuries. His recent cases include Everett v Comojo (UK) Ltd [2011] EWCA Civ 13, whether a duty of care is owed by a commercial host such as a club to protect guests from the criminal actions of other guests. Valentine v Transport for London & Hounslow LBC [2010] EWCA Civ 1358, road traffic, local government; personal injury, negligence highway authorities, highway maintenance, local authorities’ powers and duties; Omissions Morgan v UPS [2008] EWCA Civ 375, assessment of `Smith v Manchester’ damages; Flynn v Scougall [2004] 1WLR 3069, whether contractual considerations applied to Part 36 payments as well as Part 36 offers; Boateng v London Borough of Camden [2001] PIQR P143, liability of landlord for injuries caused to baby by contact with central heating pipes Taylor v Serviceteam [1998] PIQR P201, transfer of employer’s tortious liability under TUPE Regulations.
