6KBW COLLEGE HILL (Chambers of Simon Denison QC)

John is acknowledged by his peers as an advocate of outstanding ability and superb tactical skill.

His practice extends over the entire range of serious crime and disciplinary matters both at first instance and in appellant courts. It includes commercial fraud and the representation of solicitors and other professionals accused of criminal offences. He has appeared in many of the most noteworthy cases of the past decade. He is exceptionally versatile “one of the best silks in the country”, “an absolutely formidable opponent” who has repeatedly achieved notable successes before a range of tribunals. Personally affable and approachable, he encourages participation from all those involved in a case and fosters a strong team spirit. He inspires the full confidence of clients and is notably fearless and uncompromising in the representation of their interests.

Recent cases include: R v Neil Millard (defence of the Sun Reporter who is accused of paying public officials); R v MJ (trial of Dale Cregan and others for murder of police officers); R v TS (doctor accused of NHS fraud); R v AM (President of Association of Tax Technicians and government adviser on taxation accused of pensions fraud); R v Farooqui (instructed by Bar Council before Court of Appeal re. ethical and professional standards of counsel); Libor rigging allegation; phone hacking investigation; constitutional challenge to imposition of whole life sentences in Caribbean. Historic cases include: R v Gary Nelson (trial following murder of PC Dunne in south London); R v Barrowcliffe (juvenile involved in ‘vigilante killing’); R v Martin (murder of Charlene Ellis and Letisha Shakespeare after a New Year’s Eve party in Birmingham).
