Chris has considerable experience in defending and prosecuting both as a leading and led junior across a broad range of disciplines and has experience in Fraud, Road Transport and Regulatory work, Manslaughter, Murder, Serious Organised Crime and serious sexual offences in a wide range of cases and before various courts and tribunals. Chris prosecutes for the CPS, VOSA and Local Authorities and defends both private individuals and companies. He has been appointed to the CPS Advocates Panel at level 4 (highest level and authorised to prosecute murders etc as leading counsel or alone).He is a Cps rape accredited counsel. Chris has recently developed particular expertise in the Road Transport and Regulatory field and works throughout the UK both in Court and in an advisory capacity. He has also advised in a broad range of cases including I.P.C.C submissions and brings his forensic skills to assist in civil litigation. Sexual Offences This has been one of the significant aspects of Chris’s practice since he was called in 1991. In any one year Chris regularly prosecutes and defends in the most serious and grave cases of serious sexual offending. He combines a robust and sensitive approach to these challenging cases, which will often involve very young witnesses. He is a rape accredited counsel for the Prosecution and has particular experience of dealing with cases involving experts in this area. Homicide He has been involved in a number of difficult and sensitive cases for both prosecution and defence. Some cases have involved difficult expert areas of pharmacology and psycho pharmacology as well as more "conventional" homicide cases Fraud and Corporate Crime Chris has developed a strong practice in both prosecuting and defending in crimes involving fraud, whether in a corporate setting or outside. The cases he has been involved in include fraud in the road haulage, construction and mortgage brokering industries. Many of the cases have involved expert evidence in forensic accounting, auditing and areas unique to those relevant cases. He has also been involved in cases involving significant sums stolen from employers in both the private and public sector Health & Safety Chris has dealt with health and safety in a number of cases but especially those connected to road transport. Road Transport/Traffic In the last several years road transport and associated regulatory work has become a distinctive feature of Chris’s practice and it has taken him across the UK appearing in a variety of courts and before the Traffic Commissioner. He is sought after in this field whether it be by the Crown Prosecution Service, Police Road Death investigation teams or private individuals and companies. He has also prosecuted on behalf of VOSA. His work has a particular emphasis on road death cases as well as regulatory offending and often includes complex and technical expert evidence in accident reconstruction, tachograph analysis and sleep depravation. Organised Crime Chris has been involved in some of the highest profile cases involving serious organised crime and gangs who are involved in either violence and/or drug supply. He deals with such cases both prosecuting for CPS and Eastern Region Complex Case unit and defending a number of individuals.
