Red Lion Chambers (Red Lion Chambers)

Jane Oldfield both prosecutes and defends serious crime of all types, including fraud, drugs offences arising from undercover operations, historic sexual offences and serious violence. She has considerable experience of complex legal arguments, including abuse of process, dismissal, bad character and hearsay and s.41 arguments relating to previous sexual history of complainants. She is also skilled in navigating issues involving sensitive disclosure, and cross-examination of vulnerable witnesses and of experts. Jane Oldfield regularly appears for the General Medical Council at Fitness to Practise hearings and represents nurses before their professional regulator, the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She is instructed by local Councils to prosecute planning enforcement and environmental offences, and recently successfully opposed an abuse of process application based on the interpretation of complicated planning legislation and case law. Jane has also appeared at both first instance and in the High Court in extradition matters. Jane has built up a considerable expertise in proceeds of crime, and lectures on restraint and confiscation proceedings. She has advised on the impact of property freezing orders, restraint orders, management receivership orders and confiscation orders upon the recovery of debt by a local authority. She has also appeared for the prosecution and defence in complicated contested confiscation hearings. Jane is currently instructed as a led junior in a health and safety prosecution of a multi-national corporation charged with failing to ensure the health and safety of workers during the transportation of wind turbines to an offshore wind farm. In November 2015 she will also represent the third defendant in a trial involving allegations of mortgage fraud and defrauding police officer investors in a property investment scheme. Later this year she is due to defend a woman with mental health difficulties against charges of arson with intent to endanger life, and to prosecute a complex money laundering trial.
