Tom Forster has considerable experience in and a reputation for defending and prosecuting serious and complex fraud, including restraint / confiscation proceedings, and associated proceedings before the Administrative Court and regulatory tribunals. Notable fraud cases include: (a) SFO’s prosecution of BAE Systems (2011); (b) CPS (Specialist Fraud Group: Operation Ballast: 2013): leading prosecution of conspiracy to corrupt arising from payments made to BP; (c) CPS (Organised Crime: Operation Vociferous: 2014): prosecution of attack on UN Carbon Credits Registry; (d) CPS (Specialist Fraud Group: Operation Amazon: 2015): defence of alleged cheat upon public revenue arising from tax relief upon research and development costs incurred by companies developing tradable carbon credits; (e) CPS (Organised Crime: Operation Rhetoric: 2015): leading prosecution of alleged banking fraud and money laundering; (f) CPS (Serious Crime Directorate: Operation Mido: 2015): leading prosecution of alleged money laundering based upon high value care hire businesses; (g) FCA (Operation Taburnula: 2015): defence of alleged insider trading conspiracy involving so called insiders at a number of market leading investment banks; (h) Environment Agency (Operation Durable: 2015): pre-charge restraint proceedings. He also boasts a proven track record in defending in cases of serious crime including homicide and gun crime, drugs- and people-trafficking and sexual offending. Tom has defended in a number of recent homicides at the Central Criminal Court. He is recognised at the Bar for his ability including both his considerable jury and judge-handling advocacy skills and his management and presentation of complex investigations involving expert technical evidence. He has a great deal of experience in the field of professional discipline and receives regular instructions from the General Medical Council and Bar Standards Board.
