Position

Tom is a well-regarded junior with considerable experience before a wide range of regulators, with a particular focus on healthcare.

He regularly advises and represents registrants before the MPTS, NMC, and ACCA.  He recently represented the head of a regional specialist medical unit following allegations that the unit was conducting a dangerous and unlawful clinical trial.  Other matters with which he has dealt include allegations of dishonesty, sexual impropriety and clinical failings allegedly linked to serious harm and death.

Tom prosecutes some of the most serious and high profile cases before the GDC, NCTL, GOC and The Football Association. For example, Tom prosecuted the Leeds United owner, Massimo Cellino, before The FA’s Regulatory Commission.

Tom regularly advises and represents interested persons (clinicians and healthcare providers) at inquests.  Recent examples include:

- Representing an anaesthetist whose actions were alleged to have caused the death of a young woman following childbirth.

- Representing a GP following the death of a bed-bound individual owing to a fire allegedly related to the prescription of emollient creams.

His experience in criminal law means that Tom is able to advise and represent clients who may face criminal proceedings, such as gross negligence manslaughter, in connection with their alleged professional misconduct.
