2 Hare Court (Chambers of Jonathan Laidlaw QC)

Position

Marios advises and represents clients from a wide variety of industry sectors in cases brought by their regulatory bodies, and in related proceedings in the criminal, civil and coronial courts, and other tribunals. He appears both at first instance and advises on appeals and judicial review applications to the High Court. He specialises in complex and lengthy cases before disciplinary committees, and in the High Court, and is adept at quickly identifying key issues. He is instructed by major indemnity providers and corporate bodies and the regulators to advise and appear on behalf of their members.

Lauded for his ability to deal with high pressure situations and for being ‘forcible in hearings despite his genial appearance’ (Chambers & Partners 2009), and for being a ‘tenacious advocate’ as well as ‘a creative negotiator’ (Chambers & Partners 2010), he continues to be instructed from all sides in the most serious, complex and high profile of cases including advising and presenting the case against the social worker and team leader responsible for Peter Connelly (’Baby P’).  Described by the Legal 500 as ‘intelligent, resourceful, empathetic, fair and knowledgeable’, Marios has also built an extensive defence practice before not only health regulators such as the General Medical Council, General Dental Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Care Quality Commission but other organisations such as educational committees, animal welfare regulators and other professional bodies. He also regularly appears in linked proceedings before coroners courts and the Crown Court where he also sits as a Recorder. He also advises professionals abroad as to their professional registrations in the United Kingdom.

Marios was one of only two barristers (the other being a QC) to advise the precursor of the MPTS on the form and nature of its Fitness to Practice Rules.
