He has a wide ranging practice on both sides of the border. Currently a full member of Crown Office Chambers (chambers of Richard Lynagh QC) in London. Experienced court practitioner at all levels, both at first instance and on appeal. Considerable experience in Supreme Court advocacy (ten appearances so far and other cases pending). Prior experience in the House of Lords and Privy Council. Numerous proofs (trials) run to conclusion; numerous appeals presented. Practice is varied (including commercial and contract, professional negligence in respect of all professions; insurance). Sound knowledge of consumer credit matters (Durkin v PC World and HFC Bank, Supreme Court, for example). Main practice area is clinical negligence and personal injury for pursuers/claimants and defenders/defendants. Split is approximately 50/50. Clinical negligence claims usually catastrophic injury with settlements or judgments for multimillions of pounds. Significant experience of group litigation and multi-party litigation: acted in hundreds or claimants against US pharma/medical product corporations (PIP implants; metal to metal hips; vaginal mesh; Celebrex and Vioxx, both for Claimants and Defendants); lead counsel in major medical product liability claims for thousands of claimants. Special interest in all kinds of medical issues in litigation particularly neurological and psychological and actions against government. Instructed in a number of arbitrations in commercial matters of high value.
