London Bar > Personal injury, industrial disease and insurance fraud Tier 1
The ‘weighty and well experienced team’ at Deka Chambers have ‘stand out’ personal injury strength. Sarah Prager KC was made silk in the 2023 round, and exemplifies the set’s cross border personal injury experience: she appeared in Strait v Cosmos Insurance, a Court of Appeal case concerning whether an RAF serviceman stationed in Akrotiri (a Sovereign Base Area in Cyprus) could bring a personal injury claim against a Cypriot insurer in the English courts. Edward Faulks KC is leading Paul Stagg KC in the case of YXA v Wolverhampton City Council, which considers whether a social services authority assumes responsibility to a child and therefore owes a common law duty of care when exercising protective functions.Personal injury - Rising Stars

London Bar > Clinical negligence Tier 2
Launched in October 2022 by the merger of 9 Gough Chambers and 1 Chancery Lane, Deka Chambers ‘has huge strength-in-depth from its silks to its juniors’ – bringing together the claimant and defendant-side strengths of both sets. Edward Bishop KC has notable experience in birth injury claims - he acted for the defendant in ZXB v UCL Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a maximum severity birth injury claim involving issues of breach of duty, causation and material contribution. Laura Johnson KC has involvement in the case of Paul v Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, representing the claimants whose father died following negligent failure to identify his heart problems – the cases touching on issues of case law, dating back to the wake of the Hillsborough disaster, on psychiatric injuries caused by witnessing injuries caused by negligence. Simon Readhead KC specialises in claims involving catastrophic neurological injuries, and turning to the set's juniors Laura Begley is a nother notable name, with experience in claims from negligent spinal surgery to injuries in vulnerable clients with pre-existing issues.Rising stars

TESTIMONIAL: “I have used Deka Chambers exclusively since 2015 (Formerly 9 Gough Square). The Clerks are amazing – friendly, attentive and very helpful. The quality of the barristers are second to none. From the KC’s to the Pupils, the level of professionalism shown is outstanding. A bright, knowledgeable and experienced lot ! As far as KC’s go, Giles Mooney and Stuart McKechnie are known in the personal injury world as true leaders. My favourite barristers are John Schmitt and Esther Pounder – two incredible barristers – known for their thoroughness, attention to detail and tenacity. As with all of Deka Chambers barristers – they have a great way with clients – able to put them at ease and fill them with confidence. Deka Chambers – barristers who can be relied upon and trusted !”.
