Position
Child law and matrimonial finance. Cases: public law – advised and prepared grounds of appeal and skeleton argument for appellant local authority (Haringey) in public law case. Appeal allowed, confirming that the district judge had erred in law in relation to the interpretation of s38(6) of the Children Act 1989. Judge adopted Ruth’s grounds and skeleton and appended them to her judgment. Surrogacy -junior counsel in application for a parental order under s54 HFEA 2008, involving issues of domicile, commercial foreign surrogacy arrangements, validity of foreign orders. Public law – instructed by mother in a non-accidental injury case, mother alleged sexual abuse of children by father, LA alleged mother had fabricated evidence against father by injuring the daughter and coaching her to give false evidence against the father. International adoption – E CC v SM [2010] EWHC 1694 (Fam). Acting for local authority in case which approved the use of s28 Adoption and Children Act 2002 to place the child in the USA after a placement order had been made and developed the case law in the light of Re A (Adoption: Removal) [2009] EWCA Civ 41 [2009] 2 FLR 597 (in which I acted for the local authority in 2009).
