Position

Alexandra practises in the fields of construction, commercial and insurance law. She is often instructed in high-value complex construction cases, and appears in trials and hearings in the TCC and the Commercial Court, both as sole counsel and as a junior. She is experienced in international arbitration, adjudication (statutory and non-statutory) and mediation. She has experience of most of the major domestic and international standard forms of construction contract, coverage and avoidance issues arising under insurance policies and jurisdictional issues in international dispute resolution. Examples of current and recent work include: sole counsel on behalf of a defendant contractor and its insurers in a £1m+ TCC matter concerning defects at a restaurant; advising as sole counsel an employer in relation to an anticipated £multi-million construction claim against a management contractor arising out of delay and defects; advising and producing pleadings in a £multi-million claim on behalf of an energy provider in relation to the provision of energy saving measures to meet requirements imposed by the regulator; sole counsel in a £3m+ share agreement case currently proceeding in the Commercial Court; advising as sole counsel an employer in relation to anticipated claims by and against the main contractor arising out of the construction of gas pipelines and facilities; acting for a local authority in relation to various £multi- million utilities and construction disputes under PFI contracts relating to the Building Schools for the Future Programme; in 2012-13, junior counsel (and sole counsel in the part of the case concerning interest) in one of the leading modern cases on the discharge of sureties, Hackney Empire Theatre v Aviva, in the TCC and Court of Appeal; in 2012-13, junior counsel for an international contractor in a complex $multi-million ICC arbitration concerning defects and delays at a water desalination plant in the Middle East.
