Position

Specialises in corporate and personal insolvency and general company law, and is well known for her involvement in the field of voluntary arrangements, both corporate and individual. It is an area in which she has lectured extensively and has many reported cases. Also practises in commercial litigation, such as contract, banking, guarantees and other securities whilst retaining an interest in private international litigation. She has been retained as an expert in English law and has given evidence in French before the Commercial Court in Paris. Sits in the High Court as a Deputy Registrar in bankruptcy, where she also sits in the Companies Court. Consistently features in the major directories as a leader in the field of insolvency, where she is noted for her special expertise in voluntary arrangements. Raquel also acts for The Pensions Regulator in relation to ‘moral hazard’ provisions and issues relating to insolvency, corporate law and pensions. She dealt with the case ‘Sea Containers’ for the regulator and has been retained by them in other very large complex cases such as the Boras as well as the Nantel and Lehman Brothers pension schemes. Raquel is also recommended as a leading barrister for pensions litigation. Raquel was named ‘Insolvency Junior of the Year’ at the 2008 Chambers and Partners Bar Awards. In October 2010, she won ‘Barrister of the Year’ at the Insolvency and Rescue Awards 2010 organised by ‘Insolvency Today’ magazine.
