11 Stone Buildings is a leading set of 44 commercial and chancery barristers based in London, with a recognised strong expertise in commercial litigation, insolvency, company, banking/finance, civil fraud, professional negligence and property matters.

The set: the set act as advocates, advisers, arbitrators and mediators for law firms across the country and internationally, for in-house legal departments and for direct and public access clients. It has fully equipped ADR/arbitration facilities available.

The instructing solicitors appreciate that Chambers offers a ‘one-stop-shop’ advantage as a large number of its barristers possess expertise across several disciplines. It is the depth and strength of the interplay between general commercial litigation and areas such as banking, fraud, IP and insolvency, property and pensions, which is at the heart of expertise and an aspect which makes Chambers stand out from its immediate competitors.

Besides offering competent expert advice, clients appreciate that a number of members are multilingual and are commercially minded through their experience gained outside the Bar, such as in investment banking, in management consultancy or as solicitors. 11 Stone Buildings has barristers who speak French, German, Italian, Russian, Romanian, Spanish and Swedish.

Members regularly speak on specialist topics; contribute to prestigious publications such as the Journal of International Banking and Financial Law, Corporate Rescue and Insolvency and the Insolvency Practitioner and are authors or co-authors of respected publications. For example: Ian Smith on ‘Smith, Owen & Bodnar on Asset Recovery: Criminal Confiscation and Civil Recovery’; Robert Deacon on ‘Privacy & Personality Rights: Commercial Exploitation and Protection’ and Sydney Ross on Sweet & Maxwell’s ‘Inheritance Act Claims – Law and Practice’

Types of work undertaken: Chambers’ expertise is grouped around four pillars of law: commercial, company/insolvency, property and private client work. In each area there are specialist teams that can assist with the following:
