Position

Oliver primarily defends in the fields of criminal law and regulatory and disciplinary law. He has a particular strength in matters involving serious drugs and violence. He prides himself on combining an approachable and friendly attitude with eloquent and forceful advocacy. Professional clients have commented that he seems to specialise in pulling rabbits out of hats. Prior to coming to the Bar, Oliver was a founding director of New Internationalist Campaigners, a non-profit company providing campaigning support for ethical business and the NGO sector. He has a keen interest in the intersection of civil liberties and criminal law. Oliver spent several months practising in the Turks and Caicos Islands, conducting a number of serious criminal trials together with litigation across a number of civil and commercial areas. He handled the litigation for a number of employment cases, including representing claimants at conciliation meetings and negotiating settlements. Oliver has undertaken secondments with the Serious Fraud Office and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He is Direct Access/Litigation qualified.
