Charter is currently or has recently been involved in the following cases -


Tom Hayes [2016] 1 Cr. App. R. (S.) 63 – Neil Hawes QC represented Hayes at trial and in the Court of Appeal, this was the first prosecution for fraud in respect of the LIBOR rate.

Operation Tabernula – Neil Hawes QC successfully represented a Defendant in the largest and most complex FCA investigation and prosecution the FCA has undertaken.

Sarclad Ltd – Henry Grunwald QC and Neil Hawes QC are instructed for two former Directors charged by the SFO with conspiracy to corrupt and bribe in a number of countries including China.

McAllister Hanchell(Turks and Caicos) – Jerome Lynch QC and Peter Melleney appear for a former minister in this corruption trial.


Hatton Garden Jewellery ‘heist’ – Mark Tomassi appeared for a Defendant in the trial of the theft of £20million of gems and other valuables from Hatton Garden Safe Deposit over Easter.

DM – Nicholas Rhodes QC and Martin Goudie are instructed for the first Defendant in this drugs conspiracy valued in excess of £1billion.

‘King of Benzocaine’ – Rag Chand and Alex Jamieson appeared for Defendants in this large drugs case.

O’Brien – David Wood, Darren Snow, Jason Cross, Mark Tomassi and Alex dos Santos appeared in this major international conspiracy to steal Chinese artifacts made of rhinoceros horns from British Museums

Cherry Lambrini Murder Plot – Julia Flanagan appeared for a daughter accused with her mother of attempting to murder her father by putting anti-freeze in his Cherry Lambrini on Christmas Day.


General Dental Council v TA – Alex Jamieson represented a dentist to the ‘rich and famous’ who defrauded them by taking money for treatments he could not perform as he was not paying his suppliers.

Operation Jasmine – Mary-Teresa Deignan appeared for the NMC in a series of prosecutions arising from a police investigation into care homes in Wales.

KT – Nicholas Rhodes QC and Roddy James are instructed for the first Defendant in this three-month Trading Standards re-trial. Nicholas Rhodes QC also appeared at the first trial.

Civil Aviation Authority v Amazon – Martin Goudie is instructed to prosecute Amazon in this trial listed at Southwark Crown Court for 11 breaches of dangerous goods regulations.


Inquest of Henry Hicks – Nicholas Rhodes QC and Alex dos Santos appeared for the family where the jury rejected the police’s version of events. 

English Bridge Union Ltd v English Sports Council [2016] 1 WLR 957 – Alex dos Santos appeared as junior for the Bridge Union in its challenge to have Bridge considered to be a sport despite not involving ‘physical activity’.

Secretary of State for Home Department v Special Immigration Appeals Commission [2015] 1 WLR 4799Martin Goudie appeared as junior Special Advocate in a conjoined preliminary hearing and then in the Administrative Court to consider disclosure for the lead naturalisation and exclusion cases post the Justice and Security Act 2013.

Inquest of Ndricim Sadushi – Darren Snow appeared for the nursing staff following this death in HMP Belmarsh.

Fletcher v Governor of Whatton Prison [2016] ACD 39 - Alex Dos Santos appeared in this challenge to the imprisonment for public protection regime, detainees were unable to secure release long after the conclusion of the specified sentence due to a lack of courses.
