Position

Employment and discrimination: primarily representing trade union supported claimants at Tribunal level, though has also appeared in the EAT and the High Court. Regularly represents members of a large number of national trade unions, including UNISON, UNITE and RMT, and has been successful in cases covering a wide range of issues such as race, sex and disability discrimination, contract claims and unfair dismissal. Represented members of community trade union made redundant by their former employer, Alpha Steel Ltd, and was successful in securing compensation in excess of £1m. Recently represented a pilot dismissed by Ryanair when he was found to be providing trade union recruitment information to cabin crew. The case settled at court after succeeding on a preliminary issue. Also represents claimants in the County Court in discrimination claims relating to the provision of goods facilities and services. Professional regulatory: represents individuals facing fitness to practise proceedings in a number of regulatory bodies including Health Professions Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, General Teaching Council and General Social Care Council. Also appears in the First Tier Tribunal appealing decisions from regulators. Sue recently represented Steph Brennan, the physiotherapist caught in the ‘Bloodgate’ rugby case.

Called 2001; Inner Temple. Came to the Bar after 20 years working in local government and for two national trade unions.
