Housing, property and community care.

Position

Dominic practices principally in housing and community care law, dealing with homelessness and allocations cases, accommodation cases under community care and child care law, anti-social behaviour, disrepair, unlawful eviction and possession matters. In that context his practice includes elements of immigration law, EU law, discrimination law, and human rights law. He also deals with residential property leasehold disputes. He appears at all levels of the judiciary and is regularly instructed at short notice to obtain injunctions in the Administrative Court or the County Court, whether for emergency accommodation from housing or social services departments or whether to prevent or secure re-entry in unlawful eviction cases. As well as regularly speaking on housing law topics, Dominic has a strong commitment to writing on housing issues. Dominic’s commitment to the need to secure housing for the most vulnerable is reflected in his practice, which is predominantly legally aided, and in his involvement with the Housing Law Practitioner’s Association where he has been a member of the executive committee since 2004. Recent cases of note include Hanoman v Southwark LBC (No. 2) [2009] UKHL 29; [2009] 1 WLR 1367 (right to buy); Ahmed v Leicester CC [2007] EWCA Civ 843 (Homelessness; suitability of accommodation) and Desnousse v Newham LBC & others [2006] QB 831; [2006] HLR 38 CA (Possession; status of occupier).
